Hello,
I'm Evelyn, an LCSW working with GROW, exclusively with online clients. If you are experiencing sadness, anxiety or frustration with your relationships, it's time to get the support you need. If you are seeking a therapist who creates a safe and supportive space for change, I think we might work well together.
My background encompasses not only experience in clinical social work but also in the fields of nursing and music. I enjoy being inclusive and open in both my personal and professional life.
I look forward to learning about you and working collaboratively to effect positive change in your life.
At my core, I am a therapist who believes in the transformative power of depth, empathy, humor, and the arts. I’ve spent my career helping people understand themselves more fully — not only by reducing symptoms, but by uncovering the narratives, emotions, and self-limiting beliefs that have kept them small or stuck. I work from a humanistic and psychoanalytic foundation, integrating mindfulness, ACT, and solution-focused strategies to help clients access resilience, self-compassion, and real change.
I bring a warm, grounded, and creative presence into the room. My background as an artist and writer shapes my work: I’m attentive to symbolism, story, imagination, and the deeper layers of a person’s emotional life. Humor is also one of my most natural tools, not to avoid pain, but to help clients feel safe, open, and connected as they explore difficult experiences.
Across corporate mental health, trauma work, refugee support, and private practice, I’ve seen how people flourish when they’re permitted to be fully themselves. I help clients build self-esteem through honesty, curiosity, and acceptance; loosen rigid patterns; and move beyond the internalized messages or roles that no longer serve them.
I am a licensed therapist (licensed in September 2025) with over 15 years of experience walking alongside individuals during some of the most challenging and tender moments of their lives. My work has deeply focused on end of life care, grief and loss, trauma recovery and supporting those living with depression. Whether you are coping with loss, processing past trauma, or feeling overwhelmed by sadness or uncertainty, I offer a steady, supportive presence as you work toward understanding, healing and renewed hope. It is my privilege to support clients as they navigate pain, discover resilience and reconnect with meaning and purpose in their lives.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about me. My name is Emily Cortez and I am an LMFT in CA. It is my hope to connect with you in a warm, supportive space to help process and tackle the many challenges that life throws at us. I have been practicing in the field going on 5 years now and have experience working with children, teens, families, and adults. I specialize in anxiety, depression, adjustment/life transitions, trauma, and grief/loss.
Welcome! Taking the step to seek therapy is a courageous move, and it’s a powerful indicator that you’re ready to embrace positive change. This journey can feel daunting, but it’s a testament to your openness and commitment to creating a life filled with hope, fulfillment, and new possibilities.
I specialize in supporting individuals through anxiety, depression, food-related issues, and trauma. I also offer guidance to stressed parents of children with special needs.
My approach is centered around two main goals: first, helping you achieve regulation in your body and nervous system, and second, fostering a compassionate understanding of your mind’s patterns to guide it towards healthier choices. Because mental health is deeply personal, I tailor my approach to what best suits your needs. We might use a top-down approach, focusing on thoughts, beliefs, and values, or a bottom-up approach that listens to your body's sensations and messages. Often, a combination of both methods works best.
I draw from a range of techniques, including Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and various somatic interventions. Together, we’ll explore which methods resonate most with you and create a path forward that aligns with your unique journey.
I commend you on taking the first steps to find support! Whether its anxiety, depression, grief or otherwise unknown, I provide a virtual safe space to explore all of the emotions you may be experiencing and help guide you in finding healthier ways to cope. You'll get the opportunity to better understand the root of your emotional experiences while feeling more empowered to help yourself each step of the way.
My approach varies based on your individual needs. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory and Solution Focused models, to help create awareness and understanding. Together, we work toward meaningful change that fits your life and goals. I have lengthy experience in high acuity, crisis settings, educational settings, and life challenges.
My communication style is calm, personable, and accommodating. I want my clients to feel comfortable and connected with me, and I take pride in my nonjudgmental listening. I became a therapist because I have a genuine interest in helping others become the best version of themselves. I've been naturally drawn to supporting people since I was young, trusted by friends and active in my community.

Reaching out for help can be a very vulnerable experience, but also a great attribute of strength and resilience. I work with individuals who have experienced trauma in their life. Whether it's from childhood neglect, sexual assault, natural disaster, sudden death or other life circumstances. Trauma often creates patterns and loops that extend into many areas of a person's life, and can be challenging and painful to navigate. I work to empower clients to understand and alter unhealthy cycles to strengthen and better their lives.

As a child I was always very sensitive and curious about the world that surrounded me. It came natural to help people and I knew that I wanted to give back to the world at large. Just like you I suffered from some childhood wounds. My parents did the best they could with the tools they had. But due to their struggles I became a very codependent child wanting to save and fix my parents to simply gain the love I desired.
Later on I would be able to understand this cycle and name some of the patterns I lived out. People pleasing, losing myself in toxic relationships and not fully loving that little girl inside of me. Once I became a LMFT and gained the knowledge and tools necessary I was not only able to break my own patterns, I was also able to help others find joy and deep meaning in their lives.
Ultimately I specialize in helping people understand their patterns and be more effective communicators in their world. My role has been a guide and coach for my clients, providing innovative approaches based on Gestalt Method, Ancient Forgiveness Techniques, Psychodynamic Therapy, NLP and Hypnosis. I use these techniques to help my clients break patterns, many of which are fear based as a result of early childhood trauma that causes emotional issues in the present. This is deep and powerful work, and is necessary to enable a positive path to desired future. I look forward to working with you and guiding you on the path to healing and freedom.
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and registered art therapist providing telehealth services to TN and CA residents. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. I have worked as a therapist for the past 12 years. As a first generation Vietnamese American with immigrant parents, my life experiences of growing up in two very different cultures have taught me ways to navigate through cross-cultural conflicts and have the ability to respond to individuals, couples, and families from diverse cultural systems with compassion and understanding. As a therapist, I empower individuals to draw upon their strengths, heal holistically, and self-love. I will encourage and provide a safe space for you to explore, heal, and have the courage to move forward on a journey toward self-discovery, growth, confident, and love. It will help you become more resilience, improve self-worth, and a healthy deep connection with others.
The decision to connect with a mental health professional takes courage and self-awareness. The pressures of life can be overwhelming and too much to handle on our own. Most times, with our busy daily lives, we don't take the time to check in with ourselves physically, mentally, or emotionally. Being more mindful and aware of how our mind and body interact and influence each other can help reduce anxiety, depression symptoms, improve mood and give us a better understanding of not only ourselves but have the ability to appreciate the world around us through a more positive lens.
My approach is cognitive-based while also using mindfulness techniques. During the therapeutic process, I aim to empower my clients to regulate their emotions and become skillful in handling those things within their control. I specialize in complex trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, exploring life transitions, and negative thought processes.
I aim to create a safe space for clients to feel comfortable discussing difficult topics. I want clients to feel comfortable to be able to share their thoughts and feelings without the feeling of judgment.
