My name is Anna-Maria and I am a licensed mental health counselor currently based in Orlando, Florida. I was licensed as a psychologist in Australia but moved to America so I could work with veterans. As well as becoming a LMHC in Florida I have additional training in trauma. I have over 18 years of experience working as a psychotherapist. I often use a holistic approach since the mind and body are connected and this can involve grounding exercises, hypnotherapy and more. As a therapist I may ask you to explore not only the most recent issues that brought you to therapy but the deeper issues that are causing long term problems. If you have struggled with depression, anxiety and trauma, as well as grief and loss we can work together so you can start to heal.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
In the first session I will usually take the time to get to know you and you will become comfortable working with me. In most sessions we will work through your concerns and you can expect to leave with some insight. I will typically give you some tasks to work through during the week.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I favor a psychodynamic approach so I will often ask you to explore your childhood and early events that created the foundation for your current difficulties. I use grounding techniques to help you develop emotional regulation. I also have training in hypnotherapy and other tools that can help.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
One of my biggest strengths is that I have worked with a diverse group of clients from different cultures and who have had a wide range of issues and problems that brought them to therapy. This has taught me to be adaptible and also to focus on the person and their unique needs. I have also been trained in the use of different therapeutic tools which can be used when appropriate and have been in the field for over 18 years so I have experiences and training to draw on.
