Hello! Does it seem overwhelming to be searching for a therapist for yourself? I get it! My name is Sonja (rhymes with "lasagna"). I enjoyed working with children and their families for 15 years, and then I transitioned to the medical field, where I was blessed to continue my growth within a variety of settings. My husband and I have one spoiled dog, Bo, a boxer-hound mix, who brings lots of laughs to our home. My specialties include working with adults (age 18+). I can help people who are dealing with symptoms of anxiety and/or depression find ways to cope. Those who are struggling with adoption issues may need extra support and assistance as they sort through their feelings. NOTE: I can offer in-person sessions on a very limited basis in an office in Orange Park, FL, but I am primarily utilizing the telehealth format. You must be in a setting that is private and has stable internet for our telehealth sessions.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, I will gather some background information, so we can form goals. At the end of the first session, I will ask if you think that I am a good fit for you and your needs. If so, we will plan the frequency of visits and will usually schedule your next session.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my biggest strengths is the enjoyment I have in helping people. If I don't know something, I will be honest and tell you, but I will also find an answer or will refer you appropriately. I want you to look forward to our time together. ***If you are ready to proceed with scheduling an initial appointment, please select a 60-minute time slot to allow for a thorough assessment. If you are scheduling a follow-up (routine) session, please select a 45-minute time slot. Thank you!

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I enjoy helping people who are dealing with depression and/or anxiety, life transitions, chronic medical problems, and those who need a different perspective. I utilize principles from the Bible during my sessions, so patients who are open to this type of counseling are the best fit for my style. Here's an example: Sometimes patients express frustration with their spouse's response to an issue. I enjoy bringing up the contrasts in how we are created (with humor) and how this impacts both people's responses to the exact same thing.

My treatment methods

Christian Counseling

I utilize principles from the Bible in my counseling. I do not "preach", but if my patients are open to it, I will share with them personal testimonies and Scriptures that may be helpful to them.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I work to help people see how their thinking leads to undesirable decisions.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Sometimes someone needs an outsider's view of their situation to help them find new ways to address something. Sometimes we just get "stuck" and need some options.
