My individualized and pro-active approach helps create a supportive environment where clients can feel comfortable addressing life’s challenges through a strength based, solution focused and change oriented approach. It also helps people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds develop self-awareness, self-confidence and see life from a different perspective in order for them to believe in themselves and cope effectively with emotional, behavioral and stress-related problems. My therapeutic approach involves understanding how the patient’s past impacts their current level of functioning and then through this self-awareness, help them make healthier decisions today in order to reach their full potential and live mentally, physically and spiritually healthier lives.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, explore their expectations of therapy and discuss the specific challenges they're facing. This will help me create a plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I am patient, respectful, a great listener, non-judgmental, knowledgeable, direct, have a positive mindset as well as a sense of humor.
I enjoy working with high functioning individuals who are motivated and eager to improve their quality of life but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed and anxious about both their current situation and their future.
Every individual is different and therefore I use different therapeutic methods depending on the presenting problem of the patient. If they have early life issues I will use a psychodynamic approach, if they are depressed and holding on resentments I will use a mindfulness approach, if they are anxious and worried about the future I will use a cognitive behavioral approach, etc. In other words, I will match the treatment intervention based on the client's personality and presenting problem.
This method helps an individual change their thoughts and perspectives of a past or present situation and with that change, they will feel better and develop healthy coping skills.
Mindfulness teaches an individual to be present. Most of the time an individual is struggling with thoughts and concerns about past experiences or behaviors and worries about future events, This type of thought process causes depression, anger, resentment, fear and / or anxiety. By practicing mindfulness, an individual learns grounding techniques and relaxation techniques to help them be present and they have a better understanding of the power of now.
Psychotherapy can help an individual see life from a different perspective by finding the positive in past experiences and current situations which will help them achieve a better understanding of how their negative views impact their current mood and behavioral pattern. This approach helps them see the other side of the coin, sort of speak, and learn from the experiences in order to break the cycle. This approach helps people live meaningful lives, navigate life's challenges in a healthy manner and develop gratitude.
