Have you experienced an increase in anxiety or depression? Do you feel stressed and overwhelmed? Are you having difficulty coping on your own? Is this affecting your relationships with those around you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, know that you are not alone. Whether you know what triggered these feelings or not, you don’t have to try and manage this on your own. Talking to someone can be helpful and learning new coping skills and recognizing your own behavioral patterns and ways of thinking can help reduce and manage your symptoms when they are at their most severe. I have been successful in helping many clients do just that. I will challenge you to find the root of your anxiety, depression, and/or stress. Sometimes this may mean working through past trauma and if you are ready and willing then we can further assess the appropriateness and add it to your treatment goals. After the first session, you can expect to know what our goals of therapy will be, as we will both explore current challenges, contributors to those challenges, ways you have already tried to cope, and how you would like to see therapy help you overall. It takes two! Have you heard this phrase before? Well, it’s the same for therapy. For therapy to work, it takes commitment and motivation from both the therapist and the client. Are you motivated and committed to begin this journey today?
During our first session, I will collect some history to get to know you better and we will both decide together on next steps as we formulate therapeutic goals we would like to accomplish. Our goals are not intended to be set in stone and we will adjust as we progress.
In working with me, I will not only help you learn tools to help you cope with your symptoms but also help you to get to the root cause and begin to eliminate symptoms altogether. I will guide you and empower you to work through any barriers you encounter using tools that include mindfulness, expressive and relaxation techniques, emotional freedom techniques, guided imagery, and other evidence-based techniques that may be suitable for you. I am an EMDR practitioner and can utilize my skills to help those struggling with past trauma. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This type of therapy can be helpful in removing any anxiety, pain, or stress related to traumatic memories that are affecting the present.
It’s hard to see the big picture when things are happening to us, when we feel overwhelmed, or when we are struggling with processing strong emotions related to our negative life experiences. One of my strengths as a therapist is helping clients see the big picture of their experiences by breaking it down into puzzle pieces that we can examine together to gain a better understanding of their roots and challenging any negative beliefs that we may have attached to those experiences. In addition, we work together to answer the question of why we are responding the way we are utilizing the perspective of the polyvagal theory. With learning more about our autonomic states we can learn to identify which state we are in and what needs are not being met and how to meet them.
