Whether planned or pushed, life transitions can be awkward, uncomfortable, or distressing. At any age, you might find yourself unprepared for the big feelings that come with your new normal. My passion is in helping you navigate the twists and turns of life while maintaining your core identity. There are so many changes in life. Whether you’re a sandwich generation adult, caring for your kids and your parents at the same time, a new mother, or a young adult exploring life beyond childhood, I will guide you through the daily challenges of this current phase. As a former teacher, I’ve seen how the way we lay the groundwork for coping with new situations manifests into our adulthood. I will help you acknowledge the influences of the past and how to make sense of them for the future. Each person is unique. I desire to help you improve YOUR life YOUR way. When we work together, you can expect for us to examine the way your thoughts, actions, and emotions influence one another to create an outcome. Then, we’ll tear each piece apart and make tweaks where necessary to reach your goals. My approach is warm and person-centered. When I notice progress within our work, I’m sure to shout it out for celebration! When I’m not with clients, I enjoy crafting, gardening, camping, parenting my daughter, and caring for my many pets.

Welcome! The Ebbs and Flows of Life are something we all experience. We flow towards our hopes and dreams, while other times we may flow away. When your life ebbs it is like you are struggling against the current, and fighting your way through the current to grasp what is important to you. Perhaps the times you are flowing away are a result of relationship concerns, addiction, past trauma, anxiety or living with negativity. Like large rocks under the water, you may not be able to see them but they are creating obstacles in achieving your goals while potentially impacting both your health and well-being. I believe that by taking this step in seeking help you are interested in moving forward back to what is important to you. My role is to help you on your journey.

I utilize a positive theoretical orientation which assumes that all individuals possess an innate desire for well-balanced emotional/mental health. I believe a person enters therapy with a strong wish, whether conscious or unconscious, to overcome obstacles and free themselves from constraints that are holding them back. I find that everyone needs a slightly different approach to accomplish these goals, so I adjust in technique for each specific challenge. I truly enjoy the experience of guiding my clients through this process and consider it a privilege to play such an important role in a person's life. “Crying does not indicate that you are weak. Hello, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience who is licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina. I am currently providing individual therapy with adults. I take a client centered approach to help people identify their biggest stressor and then work with them to find a way to address and alleviate that stressor. One of my favorite moments is when the client begins to realize they can do all of this on their own and they can fly through life.

I have provided counseling services for 24 years with a variety of clientele. I focus on utilizing person centered counseling and focusing on a person's experiences, as they see them and helping them work through these with self-reflection, relaxation techniques and positive self-talk. I approach this by viewing the issues someone is having through their perspective and offer my view and determine if that aligns with what the client is experiencing. I believe in exploring family dynamics and childhood experiences to determine if that impacts current functioning as an adult.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Virginia rather than a city like Richmond?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Virginia from Norfolk to Roanoke! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Virginia.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on ADHD?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, ADHD, is filtering therapists in Virginia that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
