It is fair to say there are a lot of stressors in our society, some so large they can have a huge impact on how we enjoy and navigate our lives. I'm here to tell you it isn't all in your head, you're not alone, and it is ok to ask for help. I am a licensed clinical social worker offering virtual therapy to individuals in Louisiana and Texas. I utilize a client-centered approach, meaning you are the expert in your own life and I am here only to assist you in reaching your goals. Trauma-informed care is a very important part of the services I provide, as I specialize in working with survivors of trauma, with expertise in abuse and assault. I believe it is necessary to acknowledge traumatic experiences throughout our lives and how those experiences may shape our worldview. Trauma is incorporated into the majority of the work I do with clients, it looks different for us all but it exists in some capacity. I am lucky to have had opportunities in my career that have allowed me to expand my practice to include working with individuals experiencing chronic illnesses. I provide a space where folks with chronic illnesses can share openly about the confines of their illnesses and receive validation around those feelings, sometimes for the first time. Most of the time clients are having a very normal reaction to an abnormal situation, no one prepares us for the possibility of chronic illness and little support is available for those who experience it. Lastly, as a queer woman, it is important to me that I provide quality care for LGBTQ teens and adults. Too often, we cannot find providers who hold identities similar to our own. The last few years have allowed me to work with LGBTQ teens in my area and I have learned a great deal from them. I hope to continue this work for some time while growing my practice and providing quality care to anyone who is interested in working with me.

Hello Friend! Everyone, at one point or another may feel weighed down. We may even describe the feeling as 'lost in a web of frustration' with a host of unbearable stressors. Some may describe it as anxiety, fatigue, or sadness. Many would not know what is wrong or feel as if no one is willing to listen. Did you know anxious energy is normal? Some may call it feeling stressed, others as productive energy. In truth, anxiousness is innate in all of us to escape danger. What is not healthy is when stressors cross the threshold of what feels comfortable and interrupt our everyday habits, responsibilities, and we feel depleted. We all have our unique threshold for stress. But how do we 'fix things' when all we want is to be alone? Many will say: 'When life throws us lemons, make lemonade'. But how? It’s as simple as finding a helper - I'm a helper. I’ll help you navigate the web of confusion to find YOUR definition of empowerment. My journey began as a young child whose home life was a host of struggles/abuse which later served as an insight into the struggle others experience. Such experiences can hamper anyone's ability to move forward. In my case, I was fortunate to meet a well-regarded psychotherapist who aided me in learning life-long cognitive tools. My work as a psychotherapist began in a clinical setting. I garnered a vast amount of knowledge specializing in various modalities of treatment, including the conventional mode known as the bio-psychopharmacological in dealing with comorbidity. Proper psychotherapists should emphasize there is no such thing as "the magic pill" and most treatments do not require referrals for medications to heal. I hold a high standard for clients' rights as a mental health advocate and a high standard for myself which in turn helps my clients find their innate tools. I help those dealing with depression, grief, anxiety, eating disorders, relationship issues, PTSD (trauma), adjustment disorder, chronic health issues and behavioral issues including ADHD. I serve all slices of society: seniors, couples, survivors of abuse, LGBTQIA2S+, gender dysphoria; and those with comorbid conditions such as drug addiction. Together, we will identify what's not working for you. We will identify solutions you innately use and simple goals that do NOT require you to change your entire life. Change should NOT be an ordeal, but an inspiration. You will become partial to the positive mindset with an empowered sense of well-being.

For the last seven years I have worked with clients including but not limited to adults, couples, and families dealing with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, addiction, marital problems, anger problems, and vast other areas of mental health in clinical and hospital settings. As a Clinician I hope to help others better understand the complications that can occur in life on a daily basis and how to maintain a balance so those problems do not define them as a person. I hope to help people understand what counseling truly is and is able to do for them in the correct setting. I hope they will gain a better understanding of the true purpose of counseling to help them grow as a person. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Minor in Faith Development. The struggles that we deal with daily can be a heavy enough burden to carry, and when we compound these with life transitions or any other past trauma, it can be completely overwhelming. Stressors at home with family or loved ones, difficulties at school, bullying, truancy, challenges at work, relationship struggles or life transitions, it can all be difficult to navigate. If we go on too long without working through these issues, they can escalate into worse issues. Sometimes we may benefit from seeking help professionally. I’m here to help. I have experience of over 14 years in the areas of depression, anxiety, grief, anger, divorce, trauma, relationships, parent-child relational problems, and emotional/physical abuse. I have worked with individuals at all stages of life, diverse cultural, racial, and ethnic groups, English and Spanish speaking individuals, and families of all kinds. My education includes a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. Healing is not always found in a linear path. With every new experience we encounter there is the potential and opportunity for change. Hi, I'm Mayra, thank you for taking the time to get to know a little about me. Therapy can be a challenge for some people so I like to provide gentle guidance while engaging together on this journey. I strive to help create a safe space for people to explore their identity (cultural, familial, sexual, etc). I have worked in the medical field for almost 20 years in different roles. This has allowed me to gain different perspectives and have a better understanding of the medical community. Having been part of this community has allowed me to serve patients, caregivers, first responders and medical professionals. Most of my adulthood has been spent in Austin and the Hill Country. I am a bilingual first-generation Texan and I’m happy to call Central Texas home. However, I was born and raised in South Texas and la frontera (the borderlands) is also very much part of my identity. I find that our cultures and family of origin at times play a role in how we choose to carry our experiences and expectations.
