My name is Mark Chaney. I provide counseling and counseling-related services for children, adolescents, adults, and families together. I have 15 + years of accumulative training and experience in the fields of mental health, trauma, domestic violence, foster care and adoption. Some clients I see are experiencing short-term stressors while others are experiencing longer-term mental health disturbances. For individual therapy, I generally treat adults and adolescents ages 12 and older. For children younger than 12, or for adolescents otherwise not appropriate for telehealth, It may be recommended to address concerns in the form of family therapy. I use an integrated model that build upon a persons existing beliefs, strategies and virtues, and I work with individuals and families experiencing a wide array of presenting concerns. I am a life long student of philosophy. I enjoy reading, writing, painting, drawing, sculpture and playing music. I find peace in the outdoors and camping, inspiration in community collaboration, and I am passionate about psychotherapy. It has been my great privilege to walk with people as they unlock the resources they need to stabilize and grow. I believe that community stigma around mental health is reduced as individuals call on the courage to seek help. "The only normal people are people you dont know very well" -Alfred Adler.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients should expect a first session to include discussions of privacy, expectations of treatment, and warm information gathering, as an assessment of symptoms and needs. We will then go over recommendations as a plan of care and will seek to establish initial agreed-upon therapy goals based on the unique factors leading to treatment. Goal setting is a collaborative and ongoing process. There will be discussions of the aims of successful therapy completion throughout an episode of treatment, at intake, during regular intervals across a course of treatment, and at discharge.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

"Mark is extremely knowledgeable and takes an integrative approach, which was refreshing for me. He pulls from different theories and mental health experts to build a logical approach to your unique needs" "Mr. Chaney has a strong basis of mental health theory that he uses in our sessions. I’ve gained great insight into many aspects of myself working with him" "He was pleasant and friendly. Listened well, made cogent comments, and suggested reasonable avenues to explore in future encounters. All and all, an encouraging first session". "Most therapists make me feel unintelligible. Mark, however, counters my incoherence with virtuous tact". "I really enjoyed my visit and getting to know Mark. He listened and I felt comfortable talking about my issues. Can’t wait to see him again.

My treatment methods

Narrative

Narrative Psychotherapy is a treatment modality that aides in people finding agency, helping them to become experts in their own lives and to live in a way that reflects their goals and values

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is an integrative treatment modality where one comes to know and work with various parts of themselves. This model aides in developing unique techniques and strategies to effectively address concerns. IFS is an evidence based model used to address symptoms related to past trauma, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT is a treatment modality that aids in people finding balance and accepting realities of life and behaviors. There are protocol forms of DBT that may include directive and specific workbooks and handouts, as well as DBT informed approaches that integrate DBT skills along with other therapy models.

Existential

Existential psychotherapy is a broad term that encompasses multiple philosophically driven psychotherapy models. This model is based around theories of human nature and experiences. Existential psychotherapy explores the givens of human existence and other themes that are universally applicable to humans, including death, freedom, responsibility, and the meaning of life, with aims at increasing personal agency and authenticity.
