I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share my background, as I believe my experience may be of value to you. With 37 years of lived experience alongside family members facing severe mental challenges, I have gained a deep understanding of the unique struggles that individuals and families encounter in these situations. My professional journey in the mental health field spans over 12 years, during which I have worked closely with various communities, including those transitioning from in-patient mental health facilities. Having grown here and choosing to raise my family in this community, I have a strong connection to the values of country life. My experiences working on local farms have further enriched my perspective and resilience. The mental health field chose me, offering a sense of purpose in navigating my own life challenges. I am passionate about helping individuals find their path towards healing, and I bring experience in both addiction and recovery. Additionally, I am committed to creating an affirming environment for everyone, including those in the LGBTQ community. I would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss how I can support you or your loved ones in navigating these challenging times. Please feel free to reach out at your convenience.

I am an LMSW, soccer coach, and former collegiate athlete. Formerly the Ehrenberg Family Fellow for Athletic Counseling in the University of Michigan Athletic Department. I provided mental health and athletic performance care for up to thirty Division 1 varsity student-athletes. I received my master’s degree from the University of Michigan School of Social Work in 2020. My passion is to help individuals become masters of themselves and to help them accomplish their goals. I work from a social justice lens to be culturally sensitive, utilizing strength-based, solution-focused interventions. I strive to work collaboratively toward clients’ objectives. I have worked with patients on athletic performance, injury support, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, sleep issues, relational stressors, grief/loss, trauma and suicidality. My approach is foundationally a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) framework, and I am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I intend to earn my certification in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). The area I am most passionate about is the study of traumatic, toxic-stress, and mind/body symptoms. I have been interested in how trauma extends beyond some of the more historic notions of PTSD and ACEs. I myself was a collegiate athlete and, through many hardships and obstacles, on and away from the field, went through my own mental health journey. After coaching youth soccer for eight years since college, it became apparent to me that we had been neglecting the mental health of athletes and, oftentimes, of youth in general. In turn, my biggest motivation became de-stigmatizing mental health problems, particularly in the world of sport, and being a spokesperson for the value of therapy.

I grew up in the Cleveland area and then came to Michigan where I completed my Bachelor's degree at Hope College where I studied social work. While in school I completed a field placement working as a probation officer and spent time in Mental Health and Sobriety Treatment Court. After graduation, my now husband and I moved back to Cleveland where I completed my Masters in Social Work with a specialization in Health Studies at Case Western Reserve University. While in school I completed internships with the Cleveland Clinic in their Adolescent Psychiatric Unit as well as an interdisciplinary internship at Care Alliance. Following graduation, I worked in admissions for psychiatric and detox services for six years. I then wanted to expand my skill set and pursued a position providing therapy to health care employees as an EAP counselor at a local hospital system. I found that I really love the opportunity to get to know my clients and to walk alongside them on their journey.

**About Me** Hi, I'm a Licensed Clinical Master's Level Social Worker (LMSW) based in Michigan with over 25 years of experience walking alongside individuals and families as they navigate life’s challenges. I received my master’s degree from Wayne State University and began my career in a multicultural school system before moving into both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings in urban communities. These diverse experiences have allowed me to support adults, children, and older adults facing a wide range of issues including anxiety, ADHD, depression, domestic violence, developmental disabilities, severe mental illness, life transitions, and relationship conflicts. I believe that therapy is most effective when it honors each client’s unique background, core values, and lived experience. I approach every therapeutic relationship with compassion, cultural humility, and respect. Whether you are seeking support for emotional healing, personal growth, or navigating complex family or cultural dynamics, I aim to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and truly heard. Being trilingual in English, Arabic, and Chaldean, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with immigrant and first-generation individuals and families. I understand the emotional complexities of adapting to a new culture while trying to preserve the values of your culture of origin. This dual experience can create internal and relational struggles that are often misunderstood — but in our work together, those experiences will be honored and explored with care and empathy. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and strength-based. I use evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) while tailoring each intervention to fit your specific needs and goals. My aim is not only to support you through your current challenges but to equip you with tools and insights that remain with you after our sessions have ended-and for a lifetime.

In my past role, I worked closely with families, helping them manage, cope, and recover from trauma. Through this experience, I developed a deep understanding of the challenges families face and guided them with empathy and practical support. Whether you're navigating the emotional rollercoaster of life and work or recovering from a difficult chapter, I’m here to help you regain your balance, one step at a time. Let’s work together to make your comeback even stronger.

Hello! I began my social work journey in 2006 and have been working in the mental health field since I obtained my MSW in 2008. As a clinical social worker I have thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of helping individuals identify and address many mental health concerns and move towards the life they most desire. I am passionate about addressing the stigma around addictions and serious mental illness and I believe the best way to begin any mental health journey of recovery is with compassion and understanding. I work from a cognitive-behavioral perspective and I use a strengths-based orientation of empowerment to work with adults and couples. I feel that we are already our best selves-we just need some help letting go of the survival skills we've taken on to get through the toughest times in our lives. I have spent several years working exclusively with homeless veterans and individuals struggling with addiction, and this has given me additional perspective and insight into the needs of some of our most vulnerable populations. I am an advocate, an accountability partner, an empath and your greatest cheerleader. I'm excited to help you rediscover your best self and to claim the life you deserve.

I'm a therapist who's all about getting to the deep interconnectedness of things – peeling back the layers to really understand what's at play. From what I've seen in our sessions, you're the kind of person who's often navigating a lot beneath the surface: those unprocessed emotions that can feel like a "big bowl of whatever," or those times when you go "zero to a hundred" because something deep is getting triggered. I get that you're exhausted from going in circles, and that sometimes, what seems like a simple miscommunication is actually rooted in old fears or feelings of being unheard. My approach isn't just about quick fixes; it's about seeing how your past experiences – like those significant losses or family dynamics you've navigated – connect directly to how you're feeling and reacting today. We'll explore those unconscious patterns and "defense mechanisms" that might have protected you once but are now holding you back. I'm here to help you understand not just what's happening, but why it keeps happening, so you can truly build healthier coping mechanisms and find a sense of peace that resonates with your whole self – mind, body, and spirit.

I am a counselor who embodies empathy, compassion, and motivation in guiding my clients toward healing and self-discovery. My training in TEAM CBT, developed by Dr. David Burns, emphasizes the transformative power of confronting negative thoughts to drive positive emotional change. This method, rooted in the principle that 'The Truth Shall Set You Free,' focuses on identifying and challenging cognitive distortions. Additionally, as a Christian Counselor, I seamlessly integrate Christian principles with traditional talk therapy and TEAM CBT, ensuring that these approaches complement rather than conflict. This holistic blend allows for a therapy experience where clients address their mental health challenges and find deeper meaning and alignment with their spiritual beliefs.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Michigan rather than a city like Detroit?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Michigan from Grand Rapids to Warren! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Michigan.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
