About me

I am Yvonne Smith, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 11 years of experience walking alongside children, teens, and adults as they navigate life’s challenges. I specialize in trauma-focused care as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and a Certified Trauma-Informed Coach (CTIC). My passion is helping individuals move from surviving to thriving by providing a safe, supportive, and faith-affirming environment for healing. My counseling approach is holistic, addressing the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. I integrate evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and trauma-informed interventions to help clients better understand themselves, build resilience, and create meaningful change. For those who desire it, I also incorporate Christian counseling, offering prayer, Scripture reflection, and biblical encouragement to strengthen identity in Christ and foster hope. Over the years, I have worked with children and families in foster care, adolescents facing anxiety and depression, stepmoms managing co-parenting stress, and adults processing difficult life transitions. I understand how overwhelming it can feel to carry the weight of trauma, stress, or uncertainty, and my goal is to provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you feel truly seen and supported. As both a clinician and a coach, I believe healing is possible when we connect your story, strengths, and values with practical tools for emotional regulation and personal growth. Whether you are seeking clinically-focused therapy, faith-integrated counseling, or trauma-informed coaching, I will meet you where you are and walk with you at a pace that feels right. My heart is to empower you to move forward with confidence, peace, and renewed purpose—because you deserve a life filled with hope and wholeness.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session with me is a time for us to begin building a safe, supportive, and trusting relationship. I understand that starting therapy can feel overwhelming or even uncertain, so I create a welcoming space where you can feel comfortable sharing at your own pace. My priority in that first meeting is to get to know you, listen to your story, and understand what has brought you to counseling at this point in your life. During our conversation, I will ask open-ended questions about your background, current challenges, and goals for therapy. There is no pressure to share more than you feel ready for—this time is truly about you. I want to hear about your concerns, strengths, and what you hope will be different in your life as a result of our work together. You can expect me to be fully present, engaged, and compassionate as I listen without judgment. We will also talk about how therapy works and what approaches might best support your healing. I’ll explain my methods, such as trauma-focused care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and, if desired, faith-based integration, so you have a clear understanding of how I can help. Together, we will begin identifying the goals you would like to work toward, whether that is reducing anxiety, improving relationships, finding peace after trauma, or gaining new coping tools. By the end of your first session, my hope is that you feel heard, valued, and encouraged. You should leave with a sense of direction and confidence that you don’t have to walk this journey alone. This session marks the beginning of a partnership—one where I come alongside you to support your healing, growth, and hope for the future.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What stands out about my therapeutic approach is the way I blend faith, science, and compassion to create a well-rounded path to healing. My greatest strength is my faith, which guides the way I see people—not as broken or defined by their struggles, but as individuals with God-given worth, resilience, and the capacity for growth. For clients who desire it, I integrate prayer, Scripture, and biblical encouragement into sessions, offering hope and spiritual grounding alongside clinical care. Equally important, I am deeply passionate about neuroscience and how the brain and nervous system play a role in both trauma and healing. I enjoy teaching clients how their body responds to stress and how we can work together to retrain the brain toward safety, calm, and resilience. Understanding the “why” behind our feelings and reactions often empowers clients to make real, lasting change. My approach is relational, practical, and tailored to each client. I combine evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-focused interventions, and narrative therapy with a trauma-informed lens. By focusing on both the mind and body, I help clients learn to regulate emotions, break free from negative patterns, and create new, healthier ways of living. What truly fuels my work is a passion for seeing people be well—emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. I believe every person has a story worth honoring and the ability to move forward with strength and hope. Clients often share that they leave sessions feeling not only supported and understood, but also equipped with tools and renewed confidence to face life’s challenges. My commitment is to walk alongside you with compassion, clinical expertise, and faith-filled encouragement as you step into a healthier and more whole version of yourself.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve clients who feel weighed down by the effects of trauma, stress, or difficult life transitions and who are seeking a safe and compassionate space to heal. Many of the individuals I work with are navigating anxiety, depression, grief, or the lasting impact of painful experiences that have left them feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves and others. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and Certified Trauma-Informed Coach (CTIC), I specialize in helping children, teens, and adults who have experienced trauma learn how to regulate their emotions, calm their nervous system, and begin rewriting their story with hope. I also work closely with stepmoms, parents, and women balancing multiple roles, providing support for co-parenting stress, family challenges, and identity struggles. I am a strong fit for clients who value practical tools they can apply in daily life and who want therapy to focus not just on problems but on growth, resilience, and renewal. My use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps clients reframe negative thought patterns and build healthier coping skills, while trauma-focused care addresses deeper wounds in a safe, structured way. For those who desire it, I integrate Christian counseling to bring faith, prayer, and biblical encouragement into the healing process. My clients often come with the mindset of wanting change but not knowing where to start. They may be tired of repeating the same patterns, longing for peace in their relationships, or simply seeking to feel whole again. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you discover your strengths, embrace healing at your own pace, and move toward a life filled with greater clarity, confidence, and hope.

Christian Counseling

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) with over 10 years of experience helping individuals and families heal. My approach combines evidence-based therapy with a Christian perspective for those who desire faith integration. In sessions, I use trauma-informed care, narrative therapy, and cognitive-behavioral tools while also offering prayer, Scripture reflection, and identity in Christ for clients who seek it. I believe healing involves the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and I provide a safe space for clients to process challenges, strengthen resilience, and renew hope. Whether you prefer a clinically focused approach, faith-based counseling, or a blend of both, I meet you where you are to support your journey toward growth and peace.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns that affect their emotions and behaviors. CBT provides practical tools to manage stress, anxiety, and depression by focusing on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions. In sessions, I work collaboratively with clients to build healthier coping skills, challenge negative thinking, and create lasting change. My goal is to empower each person to gain greater self-awareness, develop resilience, and move toward a more balanced and hopeful life.

Trauma Informed Care

I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and Certified Trauma-Informed Coach (CTIC), specializing in helping clients heal from the impact of trauma. My trauma-focused care approach recognizes how past experiences affect the mind, body, and nervous system, and I provide a safe, supportive space for clients to process at their own pace. Using evidence-based tools, I help clients build resilience, regulate emotions, and begin to rewrite their story with hope and healing. My goal is to walk alongside each person as they move from surviving to thriving, restoring a sense of peace, empowerment, and wholeness
