Hello, my name is Mandi Lynn, and I am a Clinical Therapist located in Southwest Michigan. I received my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Social Work from Western Michigan University, and I have been practicing as a Clinical Therapist for 13 years. I specialize in working with children, families, and adults in all walks of life. It is my desire to help children, families, and adults identify and celebrate their strengths, while building and reinforcing healthy familial and interpersonal relationships. My goal as your Clinician is to help you overcome past trauma and/or current life stressors, build your strengths and coping skills, and advocate for you in any way I can. I am honored by the clients who have entrusted me to walk with them through their mental health journey, and look forward to working with you in the future.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I utilize an eclectic, down to earth therapeutic approach that leaves clients who are hesitant to engaging in therapy, walking away from their first session enthused to return. In our first session together we will spend time getting to know one another to make sure the Clinician-Client relationship is a good match. If the client and I believe we will be a good fit together, then we will move on to collect client history and identify their therapeutic goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have spent my career focused on helping others overcome their trauma and difficult life situations because I have also experienced a significant amount of trauma and loss. The experiences I have had throughout my life, are what lead me down the path of helping others. My desire is to make sure every client I meet is aware that they are not alone, that I will walk the path of healing with them, and they can and will move through and past their traumatic life experiences. I help clients along their journey utilizing a holistic approach that can include contact with approved outside providers (only if the client desires) to ensure that my clients needs are being met at home, work, school, and in the community.

My treatment methods

Brainspotting

I utilize Brainspotting to help clients who are unable to identify potential past trauma that is keeping them stuck in unhealthy patterns and cycles. Brainspotting provides clients to the opportunity to be the expert of their own brain and lead themselves through a mindful, healing journey.

Child Parent Psychotherapy

When identifying the struggles and needs of children, it’s imperative to utilize a holistic approach that involves the child’s main support network. Parents, Family, and/or Guardians are crucial in providing successful treatment to children. Child-Parent psychotherapy provides necessary education to parents regarding their children’s behaviors, and helps identify and implement interventions for both the child individually and the family unit.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a highly utilized therapeutic intervention for a variety of mood disorders. I have used CBT with clients for over 13yrs to help them first identify how their thoughts and feelings directly impact the behaviors they express a desire to change. Then we work together to figure out how the client can work to change their thoughts and feelings so that they present with their desired behavior(s). I have found CBT to be highly effective in helping clients successfully achieve their therapeutic goals.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I have been using Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) with children and adolescents since 2010. I was initially trained in TF-CBT during my Master’s Level Trauma Intensive Internship program, and became fully Certified in TF-CBT in June of 2016. TF-CBT is an evidence-based, highly effective approach to addressing trauma and PTSD in children and adolescents. TF-CBT is a joint parent-child therapeutic intervention that provides psycho-education on the child’s trauma, coping skills, and helps the child regulate their emotions before addressing their trauma history. After ensuring the child has the skills necessary to regulate their emotions and cope with processing through their trauma, they complete a Trauma Narrative that slowly de-escalates them to their trauma. In the end, TF-CBT allows the child to take control over their trauma, instead of the trauma controlling them.

Neurofeedback

I am Certified Basic Trainer in NeurOptimal Brain Training Systems. NeurOptimal is a non-invasive, dynamical Neurofeedback system that offers real-time feedback, allowing the brain to continuously adapt and optimize its own brainwaves in response to evolving individual needs. NeurOptimal sessions have helped my clients improve their sleep quality, better manage big life changes, decrease anxiety symptoms, and improve their focus. While NeurOptimal does report to treat or cure any diagnoses, my clients and I have seen their symptomology improve through the use of NeurOptimal Neurofeedback sessions.
