LPC, 12 years of experience
Hi! I am a fully licensed professional counselor who worked full-time and attended college to earn my master's degree in professional counseling with over 13 years experience. I have been trained on trauma focused and brief strategic family therapy modalities. Initially, I worked with teens involved in the juvenile justice system. Most recently, I have worked with adults, mostly female, who were experiencing depression or anxiety and dealing with career, marriage, stress, and relationship problems.
Developing a therapeutic relationship takes time. I would expect our first session to be informal and give us both the opportunity to get to know one another. I don't expect to get their complete life story at the first session, but hopefully, receive a glimpse of what is of concern to them at that time and how I might be able to provide support.
Listening and being nonjudgmental are strengths I possess when working with a client. I am not there to solve problems, but to listen, be supportive and help them navigate and developing tools to use when they are living their lives.
I feel that I work best with adults who have found themselves struggling in a personal or professional situation and need someone to listen and help them navigate and make the best decision for themselves. I like to provide individuals therapy tools they can use whenever the need arises.
I have over 12 years experience using this treatment modality with adolescents and adult clients. The use of CBT is effective in treating many mental health issues and helping clients problem-solve their concerns with the support of a therapist.
Oftentimes, come into therapy to address a particular situation and do not have much time to resolve an issue. Using BSFT has been beneficial to clients who have been diagnosed with Adjustment Disorder, which is an excessive reaction to stress that involves negative thoughts, strong emotions and changes in behavior.
