Welcome my friends. From my heart, I live by the adage that I will be in my own battle or someone else’s battle for the rest of my life. Our days are like the weather. Many days the sun shines, but the rains do come and sometimes a destructive storm hits hard (a divorce, the loss of a loved one, cancer, suicidal thoughts, et cetera). I have been honored to be in the field of psychology for 20 years since 2004. Through the years, more than half of my time was in the Army where I primarily worked with soldiers enduring anxiety, depression, trauma, Traumatic Brain Injury, and all the other usual suspects of psychological distress such as guilt, fear, worry, shame, pain, heartbreak, addiction, identity conflicts, and sorrow. I’ve also worked in the prisons for many years with extreme situations (i.e., murder, severe mental illness, rape, child molestation, drug kingpins, gang leaders). I have seen many miracles. So, no matter what your circumstances are, never quit and never give up! I’m a combat veteran and retired Army officer, a devout Christian, husband, father, grandfather, and experienced clinical psychologist. Let’s get into the root causes of your battle and find ways to overcome, change, forgive, accept, and move upward toward the light. The darkness will eventually lift, and the light will surely shine again.

Hello! My name is Amaris and I'm happy you're here :) Do you ever feel confused by your behavior? Do you act in ways that are incongruent with who you want to be? Do you struggle with self-doubt and wish you could have more confidence? There are always reasons why people do the things they do. My approach is to help alleviate shame and unnecessary guilt by helping clients understand the “why” behind their emotions and behaviors. I use a trauma-informed approach with all my clients and aim to create an emotionally safe space to explore vulnerable thoughts and feelings. Sometimes personal growth means accepting that you're either going to deal with your stuff, or your stuff is going to deal with you. Therapy is a great place to start the healing process.

Below is more about my background, education, experience, and therapeutic approach. I am licensed in Kentucky, with over 11 years of professional experience. I have extensive experience helping clients with various issues and believe in your strengths to overcome challenges. My approach is grounded in person-centered therapy, complemented by evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I am also certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), an effective tool for treating past trauma and future-based fears. I am proud of you for taking this step and am here to listen, support, and understand you, no matter your circumstances.

Hello! First things first, I would like to give you massive amounts of credit for making the choice to begin/continue your journey to healing, health and happiness. Whether you choose me or another provider it is extremely brave to make the effort to look into beginning or continuing with therapy services. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has spent approximately ten years in the field with the last seven being in the clinical setting as a therapist. I have worked with youth, ages 4-21, who have experienced trauma and were placed in out of home care or in the independent living program through the state. I have worked with individuals of all ages who struggled with addiction and dual-diagnosis, and I have worked most recently with individuals who have survived or were impacted by sexual trauma. These groups also included individuals with more common diagnosis such as Depression and Anxiety. I love helping people find their own light and worth within themselves. When I work with clients my goal is to ultimately foster independence and the ability to function well in the world without my help, however; I also believe therapy every now and then is similar to an oil change for your brain. Life is ever changing and having a consistent person you can trust and check in with can be extremely healing and helpful. I believe the most important thing you can do as a clinician is to genuinely care about the people you serve and I feel that those I work with are able to tell that I am authentic in attitude.

Welcome! Come on in, I’m glad you’re here. The challenges of life can be overwhelming; the past making the present feel like less of a gift. You may feel stuck, like it’s impossible to move forward. Life transitions have a way of stirring up emotions and throwing you off balance. This mounting weight can impact your relationships, work, social life, and everything around you. I want you to know that you don’t have to face all of this alone. Together we can create a plan to help you feel better and achieve the changes you are seeking. Here, you will have a safe place to learn and to grow to overcome the challenges you face. We will work together to establish a genuine connection. I believe this is the most important part of therapy. I value honesty and transparency in our work together, without which movement and authentic change cannot occur. For therapy to work, you have to feel understood and heard by your therapist. I will work with you to alleviate hesitancy about therapy and fear of vulnerability. I will frequently check in with you to ensure the therapy process is working for you and ask how our relationship can be improved. This collaboration will empower you to make the changes you need in your life. You will have more control over your decisions. Regardless of your “why,” whether trauma, marriage or relationship issues, depression, anxiety, grief, loss, or life transitions, I’m honored to be here for you. We will get through this together.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Kentucky rather than a city like Louisville?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Kentucky from Bowling Green to Lexington! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Kentucky.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Parenting?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Parenting, is filtering therapists in Kentucky that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
