I am a social worker who has been in the field for over 20 years. Early in my career, I was fortunate enough to work with a psychiatrist who believed there was more to treating mental health than medication. I participated in a training with him and I was transformed as a therapist. I was trained in the relaxation response and mindfulness meditation and using the body to help heal people who have had significant trauma and mental health challenges. From there, I went on to get my yoga teaching certification from Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Since then, I have been helping children, adolescents and adults learn more about themselves and help them connect with the truest part of themselves. I believe my purpose is to help people learn to love themselves.
I lived in CA for a long time and still hold my LCSW license. I was fortunate enough to study with a number of teachers at Spirit Rock Meditation Center who have influenced my work. I blend a number of different frameworks into my practice including trauma-informed CBT, DBT, somatic psychotherapy and self-compassion.

While I started my career working with children in group homes, foster care, and in the legal system, my passion as a therapist has taken me in many directions. Over the years, I’ve received several advanced trainings and certifications that I’ve pursued to obtain the skill sets needed to specialize in a few areas that I believe are tremendously effective and helpful to those I work with. I’ve found that EMDR, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, and Hypnotherapy are the types of therapy work and interventions that are not only backed by research as highly effective, but also really resonate with those that I work with. As with anything in therapy, there is no one-size fits all approach, and I find it most valuable to help create a treatment approach in complete collaboration with you.
As an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) trained therapist, I've found this evidenced-based approach to therapy to be particularly effective with people for a wide variety of reasons, and as such EMDR is my current primary specialty. As EMDR therapy has gained a significant amount of positive attention lately, this may be something you're familiar with, heard about and would like to know more, or it's all together new to you. I maintained a private practice in Ventura, CA for about 35 years as a marriage and family therapist and i worked with children, teenagers, adults and couples. About 8 years ago my wife and i moved to Oakland, Ca to be closer to our adult children and our two granddaughters. For the past five years i have volunteered at City Team, Oakland which is a residential placement for men with anger and addiction problems, I wrote the book that i am using to teach the men at City Team and i have self published six other books on parenting, marriage and personal issues; a couple of titles are "Dragon Slaying for Parents (and Couples)" , "The Lost Aspect of Love (sympathy)", "Winning at a Losing Game" and "The First Pictorial Self-Help Book for Men Who Do Not Read".
