Hi! My name is Alex and I'm excited about the potential of working with you in developing a sense of integration and resilience in your life. Are you feeling stuck? Dissatisfied in your relationships and/or work? Disconnected from a sense of deeper purpose? Feel that there is the potential for greater richness and joy in life, but it is just out of reach? Rooted in a compassionate curiosity, our work would explore these themes through inquiry into the dynamic between your conscious, unconscious, somatic, and relational self. Using a holistic lens we can unpack the how's and why's of your patterns; gaining insight into your emotions and experiences, and work towards greater self-awareness and well-being. From a somatic, psychodynamic approach we will focus on the connection between the body and the mind, and how emotions and past experiences can be stored in the body and affect an your mental and physical well-being. Through the use of techniques such as mindfulness, breathwork, and body-based exercises, you will become more aware of your physical sensations and how they are connected to your thoughts and emotions. This may also include exploring early childhood experiences, family dynamics, and past traumas, as well as working through issues related to relationships, self-esteem, and personal growth.

Do you feel like you have all the knowledge needed to make change, however you still find yourself repeating the same old habits + patterns? Do you struggle with anxiety + perfectionism and it is affecting your career and relationships? Do you struggle with low self-esteem and it is causing you to feel emotionally exhausted? Do you feel burnt out, stuck, overwhelmed day to day and feel like no matter what "productivity hack" you do, nothing feels enough + fulfilling? I am here to support you in building self-awareness + learning tools to help you overcome the challenges you are facing so you can thrive. We will work together so you can awaken yourself, connect to your authentic self and live a balanced fulfilled life. I work with individuals who want to grow and heal. My passion in overall well-being allows me to focus on helping you break out of limiting beliefs + develop healthy ways of coping so that you can grow and create a life you desire. I offer EMDR therapy (EMDR in training w/ consultation). In EMDR, I guide clients through processing distressing memories by using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements) to help the brain reprocess trauma in a less overwhelming way. I integrate EMDR with somatic and breathwork techniques to support deep healing and nervous system regulation. I honor you for your courage to show up and seek the support you are needing to help you meet your future self and thrive, rather than survive.

My journey to becoming a therapist began with a deep curiosity about human relationships and a desire to help others navigate life’s challenges. Early on, I was drawn to the complexities of emotional connections and how they shape our well-being. This led me to pursue formal education in psychology and counseling, where I developed a passion for working with individuals, couples, and families. Over the years, I gained experience in various therapeutic settings, refining my skills and understanding of the unique struggles people face, particularly in relationships, intimacy, and personal growth. Becoming a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist felt like a natural progression, allowing me to use my compassion, empathy, and expertise to empower others. After 24 years in the field, I remain deeply committed to helping clients find healing, fulfillment, and meaningful change.

Hello, I was born and raised in Stockton, California. I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and in 1997, after 25 yeas of service, I retired from the Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Marine Corps, I worked as a Farrier (Horseshoer), as well as a structural welder (Ironworker), as those were the most marketable skill that I had. I came to a point where old injuries came back to haunt me and I could no longer walk (several years later, thanks to a surgery through the VA, I can walk again; thankful for that). At this point, I changed professions and out of a desire to work with veterans, I returned to school, accomplishing all that was necessary to become a licensed counselor. I spent another career working for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically as a counselor in the Readjustment Counseling Service (Vet Center). I recently retired from the Vet Center and now I work part-time here with Grow Therapy. As a retired Marine senior staff Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) and disabled combat veteran myself, the Vet Center was the perfect job. Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling to combat veterans and provide counseling to survivors of military sexual trauma (MST). Vet Centers also provide group counseling, bereavement counseling and couples counseling when this is determined to be of support to the veteran. Readjustment counseling many times consists of treating/addressing symptoms related to post-traumatic stress (PTSD), I.e., anxiety, depression, exaggerated startle response, hypervigilance, sleep disturbance, etc. Many veterans go on to work as first responders and working with many first responders as well as medical personal, has provided me with a great deal of additional experience.

Hi! I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in California, passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges. I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University, where I deepened my understanding of human emotions and relationships. Over the past three years, I’ve been honored to support adults who are struggling with anxiety and depression, guiding them on a journey toward healing in both the private practice setting and hospital setting. In my practice, I focus on empowering individuals to become the best versions of themselves. Many of the clients I work with feel weighed down by past traumas or overwhelming stressors. I use a compassionate, evidence-based approach to help them identify and challenge the maladaptive beliefs that keep them stuck. By replacing these beliefs with adaptive ones, my clients are able to rebuild their self-esteem, cultivate self-love, and approach life with a renewed sense of purpose and confidence. I understand that seeking therapy is a courageous step, and I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, heard, and valued. Together, we can work to uncover the root causes of the struggles, develop healthier coping strategies, and implement practical tools that foster long-term well-being. Whether it’s learning to manage anxiety, overcoming depression, or simply finding clarity in a difficult situation, I am here to provide guidance and support every step of the way. My ultimate goal is to help clients transform their lives for the better. Through therapy, clients can gain greater insight into themselves, improve their emotional resilience, and build fulfilling relationships—both with themselves and with others. I am committed to walking alongside my clients on their unique journeys toward healing, growth, and happiness. Whether that is: to gain confidence, communicate better, set boundaries, or start healing from your past traumas. I hope to be able to assist you in building a better version of yourself.

Welcome! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 10 years of experience in mental health. I specialize in helping individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship/ family conflicts, parenting issues/postpartum, life transitions, eating concerns/body image, and low self-esteem. Therapy is a safe space to explore, process, and understand your feelings. In addition to creating a safe space to understand your emotions, I may pull from different therapeutic approaches to tailor a treatment that correlates to your goals. For example, I may incorporate mindfulness practices and/or cognitive behavioral therapy (addressing negative thoughts). We can explore your childhood and your family's history, which may have left an emotional imprint. Or we can explore practical solutions for immediate relief.

As an ABOLITIONIST, I believe in *literally* abolishing police, prisons, & all other forms of state violence. I am happy to discuss in-depth but for now, know that I am most heavily oriented in the work of folx like Project Nia; Interrupting Criminalization; Equitable Care Certification, and Survived & Punished. Of course, I am still deepening my learning and praxis, as one ought. As a RESOURCE MAVEN, I facilitate linkages to information & resources to support people’s wellbeing. Meaning I actually make the calls with you, etc., if wanted/needed. This type of support is a major source of joy for me & something that I’m happy to help with! I’m a FACILITATOR of JOY because, as a Queer, Disabled, Neurodivergent, fat, Gender Nonconforming Black person, I place special emphasis on helping marginalized folx find and (re)create joy in a world that denies us joy. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, my focus is on understanding the environmental and contextual factors at play in your life. I come to therapy with a trauma-informed/healing-centered perspective and work collaboratively with you on determining what kinds of interventions are best suited for your needs. My approach is laid back and can be viewed as “coachy,” meaning I ask questions and provide feedback to help you figure out solutions that will work for your life. I also encourage you to bring your creative and spiritual practices to therapy, so if you want to include art, tarot, crystals, ancestor reverence, etc., we can do that!

Hello! I am Dr. Efrain Zepeda. I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Social Worker. In the past 23 years of working as a mental health professional, one important lesson I have learned is that the most powerful therapeutic intervention is found in the interpersonal experience that occurs in the client-therapist relationship. Together we can analyze the past to co-create a new meaning to achieve healing. I strongly believe that therapy is not about labeling or judging, but rather about personal discovery.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
