My name is Dr. Mahsa Mafee, and I also go by Emily; I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and also have my doctorate degree; For the past fifteen years, I have worked with a wide range of population of clients; I view therapy as a collaborative and multifaceted journey; Therapy can be painful but also a rewarding experience; Therapy can become be the ultimate path that brings a sense of transformation, healing, and enlightenment; I am also bilingual, fluent in both English and Farsi and can conduct therapy in both languages; I am also an immigrant who moved to the U.S at a young age; This has given me the advantage to be exposed to two different cultures, and has helped shape my overall outlook and perspective when it comes to the world. It has made me a stronger person, and has definitely made me a better psychotherapist in the way that I understand and conceptualize diversity and how I relate and connect to people from different backgrounds;

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients will feel safe, heard, and seen once we meet; They will feel accepted, understood, validated, and neither judged. nor pressured. They will feel as if they have a place where they can be contained without fear of having to censor themselves; They will feel a sense of therapeutic bond, trust, and connection. They will also feel that they are unique and their story is important, acknowledge, and that they matter.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a great listener and I am also bilingual (fluent in English and Farsi/Persian); I work really well with individual adults and I have a unique way of connecting with people; I have worked with many different populations who have struggled with anxiety, depression, life transition, immigration issues, stress management, domestic violence and codependency; different types of abuse and trauma related to abuse (sexual, emotional, and physical); bereavement issues, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and parenting. I am also a mother of two young boys and that has tremendously helped me with my experience and the way I relate to many parents who struggle with daily stress to manage child care, relationships, and careers;

My treatment methods

Integrative

Although I have a specific frame work for working with clients, I believe it is important to assess each and every client based on their pace, circumstances and presenting issue and adjust the approach to what works best of them. Using an integrative approach provides the platform to come up with the optimal treatment that suits each and every individual based on their specific needs.
