I specialize in working with clients who are motived, courageous, and open to exploring their inner world. My goal is to help others achieve their goals. As a licensed clinical social worker, I offer a warm, grounded, and collaborative space where clients can slow down, reflect, and better understand themselves. My approach is person centered and trauma-informed, with a strong foundation in cognitive behavioral and strengths based therapies. Even if clients are not quite sure what that looks like. I help clients by navigating anxiety, relationship struggles, or life transitions. Most people are overwhelmed by pressure. What they tend to want most is clarity, peace, and to feel more connected. They're seeking safe, nonjudgmental space where they can explore their thoughts freely and begin to moe toward a life that feels more aligned and intentional.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW) providing individual therapy to adults (18+) across Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. My journey to becoming a therapist began with a deep desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. This passion led me to pursue a double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology, giving me insight into both human behavior and the systems that shape our experiences. From there, I earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work, building a strong foundation to guide, support, and empower those I work with. My practice is grounded in a client-centered, collaborative, and trauma-informed philosophy. I view therapy as a partnership, with your voice and perspective at the center. I am a licensed independent practice-level clinical social worker. I have dedicated my career to working in behavioral health treatment. I have worked within the Department of Defense Schools in Europe and Asia. I have worked with Active Duty members, Veterans and their families. I have provided clinical supervision within both the Department of Defense headquarters and at the Veteran Affairs hospital, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Prior to joining the Civilian Service, I practiced mental health within the civilian community, my focus there was substance abuse, domestic violence and and a variety of mental health issues working with adolescents and adults. My strongest ability lies in helping a client identify strengths and weaknesses while guiding them to identify goals and interventions that will work specifically for them. The most challenging part of therapy is believing it will make a difference. The best way to overcome that hurdle is to see successful outcomes. Clinical experience has taught me that if you are willing to do the work, you will see results. Using the appropriate interventions, combined with mutual openness, respect and trust will enable you to overcome obstacles and achieve goals you didn't believe possible. Through years of dedicated work with all age groups, life experiences and extremely challenging circumstances, I have developed a strong sense of commitment in creating a safe and supportive environment that fosters healing, self-awareness and growth.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people facing a wide range of challenges—experiences that have shown me just how powerful and transformative therapy can be. These moments have only deepened my commitment to walking alongside others on their path to healing. I’m continually inspired by the belief that every person holds the capacity for growth, resilience, and change. We can change and heal. Sometimes we just need a little help along the way.

Are there things in your life that you want to change to be happier, feel better about yourself, come to terms with things from the past, or have better relationships with others? If you do, I believe that counseling can help you achieve the kind of life you want to have. I'm a clinical psychologist specializing in treatment of post traumatic stress, anxiety, and depression. I have over 20 years of experience as a therapist and I am trained in multiple types of therapies. I'm originally from Oregon, but I have spent most of my adult life in Texas and a few years overseas in Asia and Europe. In addition to private practice, I have been a military psychologist, Veterans Affairs psychologist, PTSD clinic director, Psycho-Social Rehabilitation clinic director, and adjunct clinical assistant professor at UT Health medical school, as well as participating in major research projects in treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder. I believe that therapy is a science as well as an art, and I have found that my knowledge of clinical research can greatly improve the results of counseling. I have found that counseling can be very effective at helping people make the kinds of changes that they desire in their lives, help them to have a healthier sense of self, more satisfying relationships with others, and a better quality of life. I'm confident that you can meet your goals with a bit of work and the right treatment plan.

I decided to start a career in mental health because a therapist saved my life when I was a teenager. I have dedicated my life to helping others in the same way, and I truly believe it is my calling. I have been a therapist/counselor for 7 years, and I have been working in the mental health field for 10 years. I will do everything within my ability to help improve your overall mood and quality of life in general. I offer traditional talk therapy, which includes a mixture of CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and person-centered therapy. I am an EMDR-trained clinician. EMDR can be used to treat a variety of mental health concerns.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Alabama rather than a city like Huntsville?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Alabama from Montgomery to Birmingham! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Alabama.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Depression?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Depression, is filtering therapists in Alabama that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
