About me

Welcome! My name is Dr. Priscilla G. Wilson, PhD, LPC-S, NCC, and I provide counseling for adolescents (13+) and adults who are seeking support, healing, and personal growth. I believe that every individual has a unique story, and my role is to provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you can explore life's challenges while discovering your strengths and resilience. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, life transitions, relationship concerns, stress, grief, and self-esteem issues. My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and evidence-based, incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other therapeutic interventions tailored to each client's individual needs. For clients who desire it, I also offer faith-integrated counseling that respectfully incorporates spiritual beliefs into the therapeutic process. Whether you're facing a difficult season, navigating a major life transition, or simply seeking greater self-understanding, I look forward to partnering with you as you work toward meaningful and lasting change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Beginning therapy can feel both hopeful and intimidating, and my goal is to help you feel comfortable from the very first session. Our initial meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, collaboration, and respect. During our first session, we'll discuss what brings you to counseling, the concerns you'd like to address, and the goals you hope to accomplish. I'll ask questions about your personal history, current challenges, relationships, strengths, and any previous counseling experiences to gain a better understanding of your unique situation. There is no expectation that you share everything at once—we will move at a pace that feels comfortable and appropriate for you. We'll also talk about what therapy may look like moving forward, identify priorities for treatment, and begin developing a plan that reflects your needs and goals. I welcome questions throughout the process, and I encourage clients to be active participants in their own care. Above all, I want you to leave your first session feeling heard, respected, and hopeful about the work we will do together.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I believe effective counseling begins with a genuine therapeutic relationship built on empathy, trust, and collaboration. Every client brings unique experiences, strengths, and challenges to therapy, so I avoid a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Instead, I tailor treatment to each individual's goals while drawing from evidence-based practices that best support their growth and healing. My background as a counselor educator, clinical supervisor, and practicing therapist has allowed me to work with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and personal backgrounds. I place a strong emphasis on cultural humility, recognizing that understanding another person's experiences is an ongoing process rather than a destination. This perspective allows me to provide affirming and respectful care to clients from all walks of life. I also believe in helping clients develop practical skills they can use outside of therapy. Whether we're addressing trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, emotional regulation, or life transitions, my goal is to equip clients with tools that promote long-term resilience and confidence. Therapy is not simply about discussing problems—it's about helping people discover their strengths, increase self-awareness, and create meaningful, lasting change.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is someone who is ready to better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their life, even if they are unsure where to begin. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, stress, relationship concerns, grief, or major life transitions, and are looking for a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where they feel heard and respected. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults who are open to learning new skills, exploring patterns in their lives, and developing practical strategies to improve their emotional well-being. I also welcome individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and clients who wish to incorporate their faith or spirituality into the counseling process. Whether a client is seeking healing, personal growth, or greater resilience, I strive to help them build on their strengths and move toward lasting, positive change.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

"In our work together, I often use a practical approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Put simply, CBT looks at how our thoughts, feelings, and actions are all connected. Sometimes, we get stuck in negative thinking loops that make us feel anxious, down, or overwhelmed, which can lead to habits that don't serve us. Together, we will gently look at those thought patterns, see if they are actually true or helpful, and practice new, hands-on tools to help you feel more in control and react to life's challenges with more ease." How will I use CBT in therapy? 1. Spotting patterns: We’ll look at the automatic thoughts or 'mind traps' that might be making you feel stuck, anxious, or stressed. 2. Testing your thoughts: We will gently question the negative stories your mind tells you and replace them with more balanced, realistic perspectives. 3. Taking action: We will focus on practical, real-world tools—like breathing exercises, communication tips, or small daily changes—that you can practice between our sessions to build your confidence.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

"Sometimes, emotions can feel so intense that they completely overwhelm us, making it hard to think clearly or make the choices we want to make. When this happens, I often bring in tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is a very practical, compassionate approach designed to help you find balance. The word 'dialectical' just means holding two opposite truths at the same time: accepting yourself exactly as you are right now, while also working hard to make positive changes. Together, we will focus on building concrete skills to help you ride out intense emotional waves, stay grounded in the present moment, and build relationships that feel secure and supportive." How will we use DBT in session? DBT is all about learning practical skills to help you navigate life's toughest moments. Together, we will focus on four key areas: 1. Mindfulness: Learning how to quiet your mind and stay focused on the present moment without judgment. 2. Distress Tolerance: Finding healthy ways to survive a crisis or get through an intense emotional wave without acting on impulses you might regret later. 3. Emotion Regulation: Understanding your feelings, reducing your vulnerability to 'emotional storms,' and learning how to change the emotions you want to change. 4. Interpersonal Effectiveness: Learning how to ask for what you need, say 'no' confidently, and set healthy boundaries while keeping your self-respect and relationships strong.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

"I incorporate Person-Centered Therapy to ensure that our sessions are always collaborative, respectful, and tailored entirely to you. Rather than acting as an authority figure who tells you what to do, I act as a supportive partner. I listen deeply, without judgment, and help you explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. This approach ensures that the goals we set and the progress we make are truly meaningful to your unique life and values." How does Person-Centered Therapy shape our sessions? 1. You are in the driver's seat: You decide what we talk about and what goals are important to you. There is no forced agenda. 2. A judgment-free zone: You can share your deepest struggles, mistakes, or fears knowing you will be met with warmth, acceptance, and respect. 3. Active, empathetic listening: I focus on truly understanding your perspective and helping you clarify your own thoughts, rather than just giving advice. 5. Building self-trust: Our work will help you reconnect with your own strengths and values, empowering you to make decisions with confidence.
