Welcome! My name is Genna and I’m a licensed clinical social worker who believes deeply in creating a space where you can slow down, exhale, and feel truly seen. My work is grounded in gentleness and connection, with the understanding that every person carries a story shaped by love, loss, resilience, and the longing to feel understood. I support individuals moving through grief, caregiving stress, and life transitions, as well as those navigating health challenges, chronic pain, chronic illness, and the tender realities of aging. These experiences can shift our sense of self, stir up old wounds, and bring forward questions we never thought we would have to ask. You deserve a place where all of that can be held with care. My approach is calm, relational, and deeply human. I value presence, the kind that does not rush your process, does not expect you to be anywhere other than where you are, and honors the courage it takes simply to show up. I walk alongside people through moments of uncertainty, heartbreak, exhaustion, and rediscovery, helping them find steadiness and self compassion in the midst of it all. At the heart of my work is a profound respect for the human experience. I believe healing happens in relationship, through being witnessed, understood, and gently supported as you make sense of what life has asked of you. Even in seasons of pain or change, I believe hope can grow quietly in connection and in the small moments where you feel even a bit more like yourself. My hope is to offer a space where you feel safe, supported, and held with compassion.

I’ve been committed to the field of social work since I was 18, driven by a lifelong passion for becoming a therapist and creating meaningful change. My dedication is personal—rooted in my own early experiences with mental health care, including one where I felt unseen by a provider who lacked the lived experience necessary to truly understand my perspective. That moment shaped my purpose: to offer therapy that is compassionate, attuned, trauma-informed, and grounded in safety, trust, and genuine human connection. As a neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ clinician, I bring both clinical expertise and lived insight to my work. I understand the unique challenges that can arise when navigating identity, marginalization, and systems that don’t always feel inclusive or supportive. My approach centers on creating an affirming, collaborative space where clients feel deeply seen, heard, and empowered to explore their stories. It’s an honor to walk alongside people in their healing—providing support, perspective, and validation as they move through life’s complexities and toward greater clarity, resilience, and self-understanding.

I hold a Clinical Psychologist license to practice in Illinois. I completed my doctorate studies at Adler University. My professional experience in treatment spans over 25 years. I believe a person holds the ability to transform their life for the better. I find satisfaction in helping them advance on their path. The following examples show my methods for treating anxiety and depression. The evidence-based treatment method I use for anxiety focuses on individualized symptom-specific approaches that match the client’s needs and personal preferences. The combination of repetitive and irrational thoughts about perceived danger, uncertainty or failure creates distressing mental states which may manifest as negative thought, such as: "I am not good enough" or "something bad will happen" or "I will be fired if I make a mistake." I assist my clients to detect and fight their negative beliefs and thoughts. I guide clients to manage their anxiety symptoms with mindfulness breathing techniques and progressive muscle relaxation methods. With assigned homework including mindfulness exercises, I guide the client to maintain their progress and self-regulation between sessions. My depression treatment approach matches each client's symptoms, their life history, and their social environment. Depression exists on a spectrum from temporary sadness to persistent and severe Major Depressive Disorder. The maintenance of depression relies on negative thoughts such as “I am worthless” or “Nothing will ever get better.” Our focus will be to identify and modify. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I help clients view their depressive thoughts in a non-judgmental manner to reduce their rumination and emotional distress. By teaching problem solving skills and the practice of mindfulness helps the individual become more aware of their physical tension. Assigning homework guides the individual to improve sleep hygiene, self-care, and build effective coping strategies.

Hello, I’m Tim. Do you ever feel that tasks of modern life leave you with limited space and energy to focus on your emotional and mental well-being? When people are maxed out emotionally, they sometimes notice a change in their behaviors and relationships. Life demands can lead to imbalances that might manifest as discord with your significant other or family members, feeling the general sensation of stress or fatigue, or not feeling motivated to engage in mood-regenerating practices. If these experiences resonate with you, I would welcome the opportunity to collaboratively explore the underlying causes, and work toward rebuilding emotional equilibrium. Sometimes people will view therapy and self-care as too much of a time commitment during their already busy schedules; however, I take the stance that it is an essential part of any self-maintenance plan. A practice of working toward better self-understanding and self-compassion is always a return on the investment of time.

I have a Doctorate in Psychology and am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I have been working as a therapist for over 16 years. I specialize in mood disorders, anxiety, trauma and LGBTQIA issues. I believe that therapy should be a safe place to talk about personal issues without any judgment. We all need someone to talk to and therapy provides that space where you can be yourself. We all go through some things from time to time and should be able allowed to talk with someone who is willing to listen and provide us with the support that we need.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the constant demands of work, parenting, or life in general? You’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. I work with adults who are struggling to manage stress, burnout, anxiety, and depression, especially those trying to juggle the pressures of professional and personal responsibilities. I have a special focus on supporting educators and school professionals who often give so much to others that their own well-being takes a back seat. Together, we’ll create a supportive, collaborative space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful change. My approach is warm, practical, and tailored to help you feel better and find a sense of balance again. Before transitioning into private practice, I spent 34 years working in public schools, helping students, families, and staff navigate life’s challenges. That experience gave me a deep understanding of how stress shows up across all areas of life—and how important it is to have a safe place to process, heal, and grow.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Illinois rather than a city like Chicago?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Illinois from Rockford to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Illinois.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
