I earned a Master of Social Work from Aurora University and hold the title of Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am also a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) and a Certified Domestic Violence Professional (CDVP). I employ an eclectic range of therapeutic modalities that are implemented through a trauma-informed lens, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). In my leisure time, I enjoy socializing with my family and friends, meditation, nature walks, camping, gaming, and engaging in self-care activities. Favorite Quotes: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu. “If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far – go together.” – Unknown.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session typically begins with my greeting you warmly over video and making sure you’re in a private, comfortable space where you can speak freely. I will review confidentiality and answer any questions about how virtual therapy works, including privacy protections and what to do if technical issues come up. This is also your time to get comfortable with the platform and begin building the therapeutic relationship at a pace that feels supportive and steady. From there, I will ask about what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, and your goals for treatment. You may talk through relevant history, including any past therapy experiences, current stressors, mental health symptoms, and what support looks like for you right now. I may also ask about your strengths, coping strategies, and what’s already working well in your life. This is a collaborative conversation—you’re in control of what you share, and I can slow down or pause whenever you need to. By the end of the first session, we will usually have a clearer sense of how to move forward together. We'll discuss treatment approaches that may be helpful (such as CBT, ACT, or DBT), how often you’d like to meet, and a few initial goals to guide the work. Many people leave their first session feeling heard, validated, and more hopeful about the path ahead. And if you feel nervous beforehand, know that it’s completely normal - I am there to support you every step of the way.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As an eclectic trauma therapist, I offer flexibility and personalization in healing by using various evidence-based modalities like CBT, ACT, and DBT. This tailored approach adapts to individual needs and experiences, making therapy responsive to personal growth. It effectively addresses the unique complexities of trauma, focusing on emotional regulation, cognitive patterns, and relational dynamics within a trauma-informed framework. By integrating diverse techniques, the purpose it to help build coping skills, process past experiences, and strengthen self-trust, resilience, and practical strategies for real life. Ultimately, my effort is to honor each client's individuality to create a unique therapeutic experience.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

As a trauma therapist, I uphold that empathy, compassion, and hope are essential for establishing a trusting therapeutic relationship. My journey began by providing direct services to survivors of domestic violence, substance abuse, and homelessness. I am genuinely passionate about helping individuals uncover the root causes of their challenges and promoting transformation through an eclectic, trauma-informed approach. I believe that everyone possesses a unique purpose, and we achieve contentment when we embrace that purpose by nurturing our inner light. With more than eight years of experience, I have dedicated my career to treating addiction, trauma, and mental health disorders. Additionally, my specialized expertise includes working with the LGBTQIA+ community, focusing on relationship challenges and delivering trans-affirming care. I’m motivated to ensure our shared space feels warm and welcoming, even in a virtual setting. Remember, this is your journey, and you are the expert! With that in mind, your goals and outcomes will be rooted in your current life circumstances and challenges, and will evolve as you grow.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach that fosters psychological flexibility, allowing individuals to stay present, accept difficult emotions, and act in line with their values. Instead of trying to control uncomfortable feelings, ACT focuses on changing one's relationship with them. My experience with this treatment method reflects my training working in both inpatient and outpatient treatment settings.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment created by Dr. Marsha Linehan for individuals struggling with intense emotions and regulation. It combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness, focusing on the balance of acceptance and change. Initially aimed at those with borderline personality disorder, DBT is effective for various issues like depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, and substance use. It helps individuals develop coping strategies and fosters lasting change. My experience with this treatment method is shaped by my training in both inpatient and outpatient care environments.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a highly researched and effective psychotherapy that focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It aims to change unhelpful thought patterns to improve emotional responses and actions. In CBT, therapists help clients identify and challenge negative thinking patterns, explore their impact, and practice new responses to difficult situations. Homework and behavioral experiments are often included to apply skills in real life. The skills learned in CBT provide lasting tools for personal growth. My experience with this treatment approach has been influenced by my training in both inpatient and outpatient care settings.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed care is a therapeutic approach that focuses on understanding trauma's impact by asking “What happened to you?” rather than “What’s wrong with you?” It is based on principles of safety, collaboration, choice, and cultural sensitivity, promoting transparency and respect for clients' autonomy. This approach involves creating a safe therapeutic environment, pacing the work according to the client's readiness, being mindful of triggers, and preventing re-traumatization. It benefits trauma survivors by honoring their strength, supporting healing, and enhancing the therapeutic relationship with compassion and understanding. My background in a trauma-informed approach stems from my work at two distinct emergency domestic violence shelters, where I started my career. Additionally, I hold an Illinois license as a Certified Domestic Violence Professional (CDVP).
