My name is Bill Massey and I am a licensed clinical social worker practicing in west central Georgia and east central Alabama. I graduated from the University of Georgia's MSW program in 1993 and became an LCSW in 1996. I have worked in home health and hospice for most of my career with a strong emphasis on geriatrics and dementia care. I have experience in inpatient psychiatric settings and residential services as well. I am looking to fill a niche that I have seen wanting attention for some time. For many years I have seen elders and their families in their homes but had to refer out any counseling other than crisis intervention to outpatient therapists. The problem is that I have been referring homebound people for outpatient therapy. This is not effective for many reasons. With the help of Grow Therapy, I intend to offer my services of counseling and case management to people in the comfort of their own homes. I will become a mobile mental health provider to serve a population that has gone largely underserved for all too long. My coverage area for in-home therapy will be Lee, Russell, and Chambers counties in Alabama as well as Muscogee, Chattahoochee, and Harris Counties in Georgia. I am opening up limited appointment times for virtual counseling as of mid May 2024.

I am a master’s level licensed clinical mental health counselor (LMHC), (LPC) and credentialed SUD Counselor (CASAC-A) (CADC II) with training and expertise in both Cognitive Behavior Therapy as well as psychodynamic treatment. I work with young adults and adults and have expertise in treating patients with depression, anxiety, PTSD, compulsive, addictive behaviors and domestic violence. I have specialized training in various evidence-based treatments for trauma such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I hope to help patients learn effective ways to cope with stress, manage difficult emotions and communicate well with others. We have all acquired ways of coping that get in the way of our development, and manifest as emotional pain, such as anxiety and depression. I work with clients to identify and reduce these painful symptoms. Clients are then freer to use their energy in pursuit of their goals. I work with young, midlife, and older adults. I develop a safe and collaborative relationship with clients. In that context, I do short and long-term psychotherapy and train clients to use specific protocols to modify symptoms that are in the way of personal and professional functioning. My approach provides support, guidance, and education to help you become the best version of yourself and work towards achieving your goals. I consider it an honor to work alongside you, and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Choosing to start therapy is a big step, and I don’t take that lightly. It’s truly a privilege to walk alongside people in seasons where they’re growing, reflecting, and working toward healing. My approach isn’t just built on training and clinical experience—it’s also shaped by my own personal journey and my faith. Because of that, I understand how overwhelming life can feel at times, but I also believe that change, clarity, and healing are real. In my work as a therapist, I’ve supported individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, men’s issues, substance use, and trauma. Life moves fast, and a lot gets put on us emotionally. My goal is to give you a space where you can slow down, think clearly, and be yourself without judgment—while also creating room for truth, growth, and restoration. I aim to build a relationship that’s honest, supportive, and real. Whether you’re dealing with something specific or just trying to figure things out, I’m here to help you gain insight, build resilience, and develop tools that actually stick.

Are you striving to find satisfaction with your work, life or relationships? Do you want to focus on fixing immediate problems rather than unraveling past hurts? Do you want to build a strong foundation for your current or future relationship? Have you grown tired of being treated like a problem and not a person? I primarily take a narrative approach to counseling. Narrative therapy begins with the premise that you are not the problem; the problem is the problem. The way we see ourselves can be defined by the language that we use. I see my role as a co-author, helping you develop an alternate personal history so that you may move forward with courage and confidence.

Are you frustrated you are struggling with the same issues year after year despite several bouts of therapy? Are you open to trying something different and having therapy sessions at a farm setting surrounded by nature and farm animals? If this is intriguing, I invite you to continue reading. For the past 12 years, I have been practicing depth psychotherapy that values the therapeutic relationship. I came to this field in midlife, guided by a deep desire to follow what I have always loved - psychology and psychotherapy. I earned my Master’s degree in a holistic psychology program at the University of West Georgia and pursued additional training in depth psychotherapy with the American Academy of Psychotherapists. My work is grounded in Humanistic psychology and centers on the transformative power of the relationship between therapist and client. I focus on growth rather than pathology, and on understanding the whole person rather than a focus on some aspect of their experience. I am also committed to ongoing self-reflection and personal work. This helps me remain aware of my own dynamics and any barriers that could interfere with being fully present with clients and understanding my clients' life experiences. I approach each person with curiosity rather than judgment, holding a deep trust in every individual’s innate capacity for healing and growth when given the right support, insight, and meaningful therapeutic relationship.

I've worked with a wide variety of clients treating issues such as general anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, depression, PTSD, OCD, as well as those family & relationship problems we encounter throughout our lives. I worked for 15 years as an executive in public health leading an award-winning mental health and wellness program, presenting to international audiences on psychological and therapeutic issues and solutions. I've found my experience working with world class researchers and scientists to be a constant source of inspiration and the friendships I've made continue to bring new ideas and techniques into my private practice. I've also benefited from my time in the U.S. Marine Corps, which gives me insight into experiences and issues associated with military service. I continue to pursue a continuous learning approach to life, always looking to improve as a person and as a therapist. My goal is to provide my friends, family, and clients with the best me possible.
