My name is Michael Holmes, Jr., and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Kentucky and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Georgia providing telehealth therapy for adolescents and adults. I have over 7 years of experience in the mental health field and specialize in anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness, anger management, and self-esteem. I utilize evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, ACT, Reality Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I have also completed certifications in Youth Mental Health, Integrative Sex Therapy, and Complex Trauma.
The first session is designed to help us begin building a comfortable and supportive therapeutic relationship while also gathering important background information about your experiences, concerns, goals, and current stressors. We will discuss your mental health history, emotional challenges, coping skills, relationships, and any symptoms or life transitions that may be impacting your well-being. Together, we will explore what you hope to gain from therapy and identify treatment approaches that best fit your individual needs, personality, communication style, and goals for growth, healing, emotional stability, and self-understanding.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a supportive, down-to-earth, nonjudgmental, and collaborative environment where clients can feel comfortable expressing themselves honestly. I value authenticity, empathy, cultural awareness, humor, professionalism, and healthy boundaries within the therapeutic relationship. I strive to help clients feel heard, understood, and empowered while learning practical coping skills, improving emotional awareness, strengthening communication, and developing healthier relationships with themselves and others. My approach focuses on helping clients create meaningful change while feeling supported throughout the healing process.
I work best with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, emotional dysregulation, family conflict, low self-esteem, relationship stress, and life transitions. I also support individuals living with serious mental illness who are seeking healthier coping skills, emotional stability, improved communication, and greater self-understanding in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment while working toward personal growth, healing, and healthier relationships.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I'm currently certified in DBT. I've used this therapy approach for 6 years in both group therapy and individual therapy settings. I use DBT to help clients with mindfulness/grounding, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, healthy communication, and gaining a healthy relationship with all of their thoughts and emotions without judgement.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have 6 years of experience with using CBT in both group and individual therapy. I use CBT to help clients challenge any anxious thoughts or thinking errors that may exist.
Reality Therapy
I have 6 years of experience with using Reality Therapy in both individual and group therapy settings. I use Reality Therapy to help clients empower themselves to both discover their needs and wants in areas such as their survival, power and achievement, freedom, fun, and love and belonging.
Christian Counseling
I have 2 years of experience with using Christian Counseling. I believe that a person's faith and spiritual insight is connected to their mental health. I incorporate Christian Counseling in individual settings whenever a client wants to explore and discuss their faith and how it connects to their overall wellbeing.
Motivational Interviewing
I have 5 years of experience with using Motivational Interviewing. I utilize Motivational Interviewing in both group and individual sessions to help clients discover their own reasons for change and growth. It helps the provider maintain a person centered approach where clients can experience the power of making their own choices.
