Hello, I'm Jenn Fuqua, and I've been dedicated to the mental health field for 12 years. As a licensed clinical social worker with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in adult mental health from Case Western Reserve University, I offer a well-rounded approach to therapy. My experience spans both inpatient and outpatient settings, allowing me to offer a diverse range of services, including anger management, individual therapy, marriage counseling, and life transitions. I am an ally for the LGBTQ community. In my practice, I strive to create a safe and compassionate space where you can freely express yourself, explore your emotions, and develop effective coping skills. My goal is to help you work towards a more fulfilling and balanced life, supporting you as you embark on the journey to becoming a better, more resilient version of yourself.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first counseling session, you can expect a comprehensive introduction to the therapeutic process. We'll start by reviewing the confidentiality policies to ensure you feel safe and secure in sharing your personal experiences. Next, we’ll complete a series of assessments to better understand your current situation, challenges, and goals. This initial evaluation helps us gather important information and tailor our approach to meet your specific needs. Finally, we’ll work together to develop a treatment plan, focusing on what you hope to achieve from therapy. Your input is crucial in shaping this plan, as it ensures that our work together is aligned with your personal goals and aspirations. This collaborative approach sets the foundation for a supportive and effective therapeutic relationship.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of my greatest strengths lies in my ability to listen deeply and empathetically, which allows me to truly understand and connect with my clients' experiences and emotions. My compassion drives me to offer genuine support and validation, creating a safe and nurturing environment where clients feel valued and heard. Additionally, my determination to help others ensures that I am fully committed to their growth and well-being. I approach each session with a steadfast dedication to working collaboratively towards meaningful change, leveraging my skills and expertise to empower clients in their journey toward healing and personal development.

My treatment methods

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-based therapy, such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), integrates mindfulness principles with psychological practices to help individuals cultivate a non-judgmental awareness of the present moment. My experience with this treatment method has been profoundly transformative, both personally and professionally. In my practice, I use mindfulness techniques to assist clients in developing greater self-awareness, reducing stress, and managing anxiety. By guiding clients through mindfulness exercises like focused breathing, body scans, and mindful observation, I help them learn to observe their thoughts and emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them. This approach fosters a sense of calm and resilience, enabling clients to navigate their challenges with a more balanced perspective. The integration of mindfulness into therapy not only enhances emotional regulation but also empowers clients to embrace a more grounded and compassionate approach to their mental health.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented approach that focuses on identifying and modifying negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. My experience with CBT has been deeply rewarding, as it offers a practical framework for helping clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and actions. In my practice, I employ CBT techniques to assist clients in recognizing and challenging distorted thinking patterns, setting achievable goals, and developing healthier coping strategies. By using tools such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral experiments, and exposure exercises, I guide clients through a process of self-discovery and change, empowering them to alter maladaptive behaviors and improve their overall well-being. CBT's evidence-based approach not only fosters lasting change but also equips clients with valuable skills to manage future challenges effectively.

Trauma-Focused CBT

In my work with Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), I’ve had the privilege of supporting children and adolescents through some of their most challenging experiences. TF-CBT is specifically designed to help young people process trauma, and each component—whether it's psychoeducation, relaxation, affective modulation, or creating a trauma narrative—plays an essential role in that journey. Using a patient-centered approach, I integrate mindfulness and CBT techniques to help clients build resilience, manage symptoms, and develop healthy coping strategies. Working with caregivers is also central to the process, ensuring that clients have a supportive environment at home to reinforce what they’re learning in therapy. Watching these young people transform, gain confidence, and find new ways to thrive is profoundly rewarding and reminds me why I love this work.
