I am a solution focused professional. I like for us to take care of the current issue at hand and then go backwards into what might be some of the thinking patterns that brought you to the current situation. I believe we all have the answer within, and I am here to help you find it. I believe we are all made up of mind, body and spirit. The goal is to get these 3 aligned for optimum results. As people, we should be working on one of these at all times, improving and growing who we are as people.
The first session is based on feeling safe and not judged. I try not to only fire questions but allow the client to say what is going on with them in their lives currently. I want to know from the client why they are here and what are their expectations. They can also expect some homework!
Without question, my greatest strength is the ability to be non-judgmental on most anything. That is not my job as a therapist. My job is to work with you where you are and to help you be comfortable with who you are. Another strength is that my sessions are not going to feel like what you as a client would think a session would be like. We are going to talk. The session will feel like a conversation, not rapid fire questions, where you as a client will feel judged
I have an addiction certification and am very much prepared to work with client on this issue, both individually and with partners. Depression, bi-polar disorder and anxiety are all related to the mind, body and spirit continuum, and clients will work on how to be healthy in all 3 spheres. Though not part of the LBGTQ+ community, my history of working with this population is extensive. I do have personal experience loving my daughter and her trans partner. Though this certainly does not make me an expert, it allows me to understand the trials that sadly come at times, with being in this community. I also am positioned to work with clients who do not find themselves in a particular religious bubble but do feel that spirituality is important. In my practice, I do use meditation, concept of oils and crytals and other nature-based tools to work on the alignment of the mind, body and spirit. That being said, I also believe in medication for those who need it and will work with clients to become comfortable understanding that the brain is another organ in our bodies. When our "brains are broken", sometimes medication is needed to "fix" them. I do not believe that medication and the natural based therapies clash but complement each other for optimum health.
Behavior comes from thinking patterns we have developed throughout our lives. Our goal will be to change/alter those thinking patterns in order to affect behavior and make us happier with the consequences.
