New to Grow
Hi, My name is Patrick Van Middelem, and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Georgia. My LPC license number is 013014. I have been counseling for the better part of the past 13 years and used to practice in the state of Maryland before moving to Georgia at the end of 2019. I love to work with kids and young adults as a specialty, and I also specialize in helping others with anger management, depression, and anxiety. I also work with adults as well, and I am open to all clients from all ages. I look forward to the counseling journey with you and learning more about what makes you who you are and what is going on in your life from the past till now.
With the first session, I will go through the informed consent process briefly, focus on learning more about you and your background, and initially building trust and rapport. We can then structure sessions in terms of day and time, moving forward to best fit your schedule.
For me, I feel like working with kids and young adults is a passion for me. I incorporate sports, play therapy, spirituality and faith, and all different types of other principles into my counseling sessions
Other specialties
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
To help individual cognitively reframe negative, thought patterns and to help them overcome negative, self-defeating thoughts as well. CBT is also great for helping clients to learn how to feel better mentally overall also as well.
Christian Counseling
I believe in incorporating aspects of your religion and belief system into therapy as well. I think involving God and the church of Christ with the belief in the Holy Spirit is paramount in helping others transform their lives and to feel more connected with others in that community as well.
Motivational Interviewing
I think assessing others for where they are currently in their life and journey whether it be work, relationships, etc. is important. Using principles of motivational interviewing, I help pothers to be able to see how they can motivate themselves more and engage in more positive strategies that accomplish this goal and also help them engage in more positive, self-care measures.
