Because sleep quality is critical to physical and mental health I am passionate about helping people get good sleep. I received my PhD from Duke University and have been a practicing psychologist for many years. I work primarily with behavioral sleep medicine because sleep problems are so widespread and there are not enough specialists to meet the need. I continue working with people with anxiety, depression, and couples issues. The methods I use are evidence-based and trauma-informed. Since 2005 I’ve had the privilege of working as a therapist and clinical social worker. I’ve had the honor of walking alongside my clients and bearing witness to some of their most life-changing and difficult experiences. These experiences are often accompanied by changes in sense of self, relationships, and quality of life that can be equally difficult to navigate. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and board certified diplomate in clinical social work (BCD). I completed my masters (MSW) and Ph.D. degrees in social work and am also a full-time university instructor. My work experience includes direct clinical practice as well as teaching in higher education, clinical supervision, and research. The therapeutic relationship begins within a safe space for expression, processing and problem-solving, and growth. Each client has the strength and abilities to work through the challenges they face. My role is to promote empowerment and provide clarity, insight, and support as clients master these challenges. I am a steadfast advocate for LGBTQ+ clients and families, racial and social justice, neurodivergence and mental health.
