Joanne Masters
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida and a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina with more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field. My background includes private practice, emergency room settings, and outpatient behavioral health. I provide compassionate, client-centered therapy and believe treatment should be individualized to each person’s unique needs, strengths, and circumstances. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and empowered to make meaningful changes.
First session
During the first session, my priority is creating a comfortable and supportive environment where clients feel heard and understood. We will discuss what brought them to therapy, the challenges they are currently experiencing, and what they hope to accomplish. Together, we will begin identifying their needs, strengths, and goals for treatment. I want clients to leave their first session feeling supported, hopeful, and confident that therapy will be tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.
Strengths
I bring more than two decades of clinical experience along with compassion, patience, and a practical, individualized approach to therapy. I strive to meet clients where they are while also helping them challenge patterns that may be keeping them stuck. My experience as both a therapist and a mother of seven has given me a deep appreciation for family dynamics, resilience, relationships, and the complexities of balancing everyday life. I focus on helping clients feel understood while providing practical tools they can use outside of therapy. I provide individual therapy for children and adults, as well as family therapy and couples counseling. My clinical approach incorporates evidence-based therapeutic modalities, with particular strengths in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I tailor my approach to each client’s unique needs, goals, and circumstances, creating a supportive and collaborative environment that promotes growth, healing, and lasting positive change.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is ready to better understand themselves, develop healthier coping skills, and make meaningful changes in their life. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma and PTSD, behavioral or school-related concerns, and relationship or family challenges, as well as a wide range of other emotional, behavioral, and life concerns. I welcome clients who want a supportive, nonjudgmental space where they can openly discuss their concerns, identify their strengths, and learn practical for navigating life’s challenges.
