About me

Hi, I’m Jessica Calabro, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor specializing in EMDR and trauma recovery. I help adolescents and adults manage anxiety, heal from the past, and reconnect with themselves. My choice to become a counselor was deeply personal. I wanted to offer the kind of support I once needed: compassionate, nonjudgmental, and human. My experience spans military, addiction, outpatient psychiatric, and medical settings, including equine therapy, so I’ve seen a lot and bring a grounded perspective to my work. Over the years, I’ve worked with people navigating trauma, anxiety, addiction, depression, grief, and life transitions. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood while we work together toward meaningful change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you aren’t sure where to begin. In our first session, we’ll get to know each other, talk about what brought you to therapy, and explore what you’d like to be different. From there, we’ll develop a direction for our work together. I’ll ask questions and I encourage my clients to ask questions as they arise. You don’t have to have everything figured out before we begin, and you don’t have to share everything at once. Your story can unfold over time as we build trust and figure out what feels most important to address.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I especially enjoy working with people who have a strong sense of self-awareness and are ready for deeper work, but still feel stuck. You may understand your history, recognize your patterns, and even know why you respond the way you do, but still find yourself having the same reactions, feelings, or behaviors. Understanding yourself is important, but sometimes talking alone isn’t enough. I’m interested in getting to the root of what keeps you stuck while also addressing the things affecting your life right now. EMDR is one of my core specialties and can help you process difficult experiences without requiring you to share every detail unless you choose to. My approach is client-centered and collaborative. You know yourself and your experiences best; my role is to bring clinical knowledge, curiosity, and another perspective to help you understand what’s happening and create meaningful change. Depending on what you need, I draw from EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, trauma-focused therapy, CBT, ACT, parts work, and other approaches.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work well with people who are open to trying, even if they aren’t completely sure where to start. You may have tried traditional therapy before and feel like your healing has stalled, or you may simply know that something isn’t working and want help figuring out what comes next. I’m a good fit for people who want both compassion and honest reflection. I’ll listen, meet you where you are, and work to understand the bigger picture. Once trust is established, I may offer another perspective or challenge you to look at something differently. You don’t need to come to therapy with a perfect plan. You just need to be willing to be curious about yourself and open to trying something different. From there, we can figure out the rest together.

My treatment methods

EMDR

EMDR is a gentle way to process experiences, memories, or beliefs that still affect you. We first build coping skills and a sense of safety before working with difficult thoughts, feelings, or memories. Over time, this can reduce their emotional hold, strengthen healthier beliefs, and help you move forward with more freedom.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT starts with understanding what matters most to you. Your values become guideposts for how you want to live, even when anxiety, difficult emotions, or life circumstances get in the way. The goal isn’t to get rid of difficult feelings before moving forward, but to learn how to live meaningfully alongside them.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

You know yourself and your experiences better than anyone else. Person-centered therapy means our work is shaped around you rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. I believe that when you have a space where you can be yourself without judgment or shame, you can better understand yourself and create meaningful change.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT focuses on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We look at patterns that may be keeping you stuck and practice ways to respond differently. I use many of its foundational tools to help you recognize unhelpful thinking and behavioral patterns and begin creating changes that support the life you want.
