I am committed to providing therapy to motivated individuals and couples. I provide a safe space for clients to share with me and we work together to achieve therapeutic goals. Hi, I'm Darla, a licensed therapist who works with adults navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship challenges. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and insight-oriented, blending practical tools with deeper exploration of patterns. I create a grounded, supportive space where you can gain clarity, better understand your emotional responses, and move toward sustainable change. Outside of my practice, you can usually find me with my friends and family out on a hike, the beach or spending time with my dogs, which helps keep me grounded and connected to the human side of this work.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker I provide evidence-based psychotherapy for individuals who may be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, mood-related concerns, or life transitions. I understand that reaching out for support can feel like a big step, and I strive to offer a warm, respectful, and collaborative therapeutic space. My approach is structured and goal-oriented, beginning with a comprehensive assessment to better understand your experiences, strengths, and needs. Together, we work to identify meaningful goals and develop a plan that supports lasting and positive change.
I bring extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, and mood dysregulation. I began providing therapeutic services in 2009 in a school-based setting, supporting students through mental health interventions as part of their IEP services. Since 2018, I have worked in private practice with adolescents and adults, using evidence-based approaches such as Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build practical skills and greater emotional balance.
I hold a Master’s degree from California State University, Long Beach, and completed my supervised clinical training through the Los Angeles Unified School District. My work focuses on building insight, strengthening coping skills, and applying evidence-based strategies to support improved functioning and overall well-being.
Please note: I do not provide psychological assessments, disability evaluations, or documentation for emotional support animals. I also do not participate in court-related cases, including custody or other legal matters.
Whether you’re working to improve a relationship, make a difficult decision, break unhealthy patterns, or face a personal challenge, you deserve support — and change is possible. I help clients identify patterns in their struggles and successes, so they can understand themselves more fully and move forward with greater clarity and strength.
My therapeutic approach draws from evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, attachment theory, psychodynamic principles, and strength-based practices. Together, we’ll focus on building self-compassion while working through the areas that feel stuck or painful.
In session, I am an active and engaged therapist. I bring warmth and compassion, and I’m also direct when needed — offering honest feedback in the spirit of growth and support. We will co-create a space where you feel safe, respected, and free of judgment — a space to explore, reflect, and begin to ease emotional pain.
In addition to English, I speak and write fluently in Farsi. I work exclusively with individual adults.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a degree from Phillips Graduate Institute in California. I have extensive clinical experience working with children (using play therapy), individuals, families, couples, and groups. My therapeutic approach focuses on identifying and addressing underlying issues, empowering clients to navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, and create lasting positive change. Hi, I am a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in California for 20 years and I hold a doctorate degree in the Philosophy of Counseling. I am in my second marriage for 30 years now, after my 24-year first marriage failed. We have seven children between the two of us, 31 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. I have had good success counseling couples who have given up on their relationship, especially those who have experienced infidelity. I don't counsel children until they are 18. I enjoy helping people understand how they became the way they are and therefore find ways to leave dysfunction behind.
I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) based in California that believes mental health is an important aspect to maintaining balance in life. I've been practicing for 6 years with extensive experience working with adults struggling with anxiety and depression. I also help young adults with life transitions such as starting college and beginning careers. I can help adults develop emotional intelligence, improve communication skills, and build self-esteem.
Couples: I am TAKING Couples again. However only on Cash Pay basis. This is how it will work: You can schedule with me an hour consultation, you don't both have to be present, for this Consultation. From there we will meet 5 to 6 times for 1.5 hour sessions. It is very difficult to have Couples sessions within 60 min. The Cash pay is $250.00 for the 1.5 hour sessions. I understand the cost can be a deterrent in seeking help, however if you are both committed to doing the work 5 to 6 sessions should be productive and enough to see changes.
Individuals: Of course I am still taking individuals that are or are not in a relationship and need help. We were never taught how to be in a relationship of any kind. Yes there are tons of books of how to, however to put them to practical use can be very difficult. This can also relate to a relationship with a family member, friends or co-workers.
Sometimes our own mental health can influence all of our relationships, and you may need coping techniques for anxiety and or depression type symptoms. I will work with you individually to help you gain insight to your own behavior that may be influencing your relationship.
I am here to help with coping strategies for anxiety and depression symptoms or learning how to communicate more effectively with others.
Hi there and great job on taking that first step in considering if therapy is right for you. I invite you to come with me on a journey of your own choosing where we will walk together in darkness to find the light you’ve been seeking. Whether it’s life’s little annoying stressors or more complex issues, as a trauma survivor myself, I know firsthand what this is like and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Whether you choose me or another therapist, make the choice to just give it a try. Sometimes all you need is another person to hold the light while you do the work you need to heal.

I'm Sheldon like the TV show! (Big Bang Theory). I help analytical high-achieving adults who feel stuck in patterns of anxiety and depression untangle their inner world and reconnect with their deeper self-using insight-driven therapy, dream exploration, and a creative lens that helps them uncover what's been buried beneath the surface.
Do you often say, "I'm successful on the outside but exhausted and anxious inside," "overthinking everything, but still feeling stuck," or being in a "constant sense of restlessness or dissatisfaction," or being a person who "struggles to access or name emotions clearly." I help clients have greater awareness and emotional clarity and begin to feel grounded, self-trusting and more internally connected. I hope to reduce anxiety and depression symptoms through deeper insight and ability to recognize and break unconscious patterns. I help clients discover meaning through creative exploration, and dream work. I work with neurodivergent and late-diagnosed individuals feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure beneath the mask. I specialize in helping you understand your brain, build confidence, and set boundaries. With a mix of practical tools and humor, I help you create change that actually fits your life
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like you have to hide parts of yourself just to get by, you’re not alone. Therapy can be a space to finally feel understood and supported. If this resonates, I’d love to connect and see if we’re a good fit.
Therapy with me is a mix of empathy, honesty, and humor. Some days it’s deep reflection; other days it’s simply finding a moment of calm in the chaos. I believe growth doesn’t have to mean changing who you are, it’s about reconnecting with who you’ve always been.
My name is Thomas Barhorst, and I started counseling in 2004. In addition to having a small private practice shortly after I received my Missouri license in 2007; I have worked as a K-12 school counselor, in substance use treatment, in a residential treatment setting, in a community mental health agency, helping individuals with disabilities transition into the workforce, and helping graduate students manage stress in their professional programs (i.e. medical school, dental school, etc.). Recently, I have begun providing telehealth therapy after obtaining licensure in Arizona and California.
Outside of work, spending time with family and friends is important to me. I also enjoy stories, laughing, listening to stand-up comedy, cooking, playing sports like wallyball and ultimate frisbee on a non-competitive level, watching film noir and psychological thrillers, recently had the opportunity to take my car to a racetrack, and have played bass guitar in a rock band.
Congratulations! You have taken the first steps in the journey to your goal(s). I am extremely grateful you are considering me to partner up with. I consider my relationships as instrumental in learning who I am. The relationships that most speak to who I am include being a spouse, father, brother, son, colleague, and friend. My grandparents are deceased. Through these relationships I have learned a great deal.
