LMFT, 27 years of experience
New to Grow
My name is Joey Dolowy, (yes it rhymes and yes it is my name, enjoy) and I have been a professional therapist since June of 1998: I have pursued psychology and addiction since a friend over dosed and died when I was 13. I am motivated to help everyone who asks me, it feeds my spirit and it is such a huge part of my identity. I want to help you and I want to hear your story: please contact me and see if my style fits your needs: CHEERS.
I will go over confidentiality and then practice being quiet and listening, unless you are more comfortable with me asking questions. I take notes during the session to have accurate information if I need to look back. Thats it: I simply shut up, listen and comment when I think it is helpful and or important to do so. I utilize humor to also facilitate progress: I hope you think i'm funny, if not let me know and I will change tact.
Lots of life and professional experience: I am 19 years into my second marriage: I have a well rounded dating story line from my younger days: I love learning and have a number of post graduate specializations and a few certifications: all of which, I feel, help me understand your position while simultaneously giving me perspective on how to approach what is bothering you. And as a dedicated competitive athlete from the age of 10 to now almost 60 and having qualified and trained at the OLYMPIC TRAINING CENTER , I have had many injuries and set backs that allow me to empathize, in a directly helpful way to many life situations. I am ready and experienced to help you.
I seem to work best with teenagers to retiree's: I have decades of experience treating the following: Depression: Anxiety: Addiction: Self Harm: Phase of Life issues: Rape: Date Rape: Sexual harassment: and Grief counseling. I specialize in doing therapy while hiking, biking and skating in my private practice: I am periodically called to help athletes, as I have been top 25 nationally in Gymnastics and Mountain Bike Racing (single speeding).
Facilitates the most natural conversation while building rapport: Lets chat about what is going on in your life: I am here for you.
This, to me, is the basis of foundation for respect and communication: I am here to listen and offer comments to facilitate growth and to sharpen perspective.
I have found this to fit many therapy situations over the decades I have been a therapist. I found this book in the school library by accident and it captivated me and shaped the rest of my graduate school experience (particularly as it was not accepted here in the US at the time) and early sessions during my internships. I am not an expert, yet it fits for me and my personal style.
This the absolute foundation of therapy, the respect of others, the acceptance that none of us are perfect and that we all need help at some point in our lives. I love helping people and my job rocks: I hope I get to hear your story and help you.
We all carry issues from our childhoods (yes, me included) and looking at these retrospectively, with the right help, frequently can cultivate change. I am ready with lots of professional, personal, and life experience to help you: give me a call or email. Cheers.
