My name is Kevin Thompson. I have been counseling adults and teens for a long time. I have helped clients deal with everything from Asperger's to Trichotillomania (pulling hairs out of one's head) and everything in between. Over the years, I have developed many tools which have proven effective for dealing with mental health challenges. I have also seen great success with talking cures like psychotherapy and narrative therapy. I wake up in the morning wanting to help people. I go to sleep at night wondering how I could help more. I have a passion for connecting with people and sharing the weight of their life's burdens. I have hope. I refuse to believe that we can't do better and be better as humans. If you need someone to help you do better, be better, or deal with those who chose not to do and be better, I'm your guy.
In the first session, we will discuss why you are seeking therapy. I believe in letting you "get it off your chest." Then we will go over the intake and develop a treatment plan. We may start challenging flawed beliefs or delving into the past to find reasons for the way things are. You may have a very specific and immediate issue facing you or someone you care about. I will do my best to help you find the solution or resolution. In the problem solving business we say that a problem well defined is a problem half solved. It may be the echoes of a childhood traumatic event or fears regarding the future. You may not know exactly what you need, but you know you need help. I can help.
I am non-judgmental. I make no assumptions. I seek to understand what you are saying completely. I am not afraid of discussing anything at all that may be affecting your mental health. I genuinely care. I will use everything within the scope of my practice to get you the results you seek.
CBT is appropriate for many counseling needs. Using CBT we consider thoughts, feelings, and actions, and adjust accordingly. Thought processes and thinking errors are addressed and corrected resulting in a more functional thought process and behaviors.
With Eclectic therapy, many different counseling principles are utilized as needed individually or in combination. This allows for an "in the moment" approach.
Mindfulness is a practice that takes us from the past and the future to 100% in the present. With this awareness we are able to prioritize and address clearly the issues that are influencing how you feel and the way you think. It also serves to shift your attention from issues that are troubling to a more positive mindset
