I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Addiction Counselor licensed in both Texas and Louisiana, and I’ve spent over a decade helping people through some of life’s most difficult moments. I began my work in 2007 at a chemical dependency organization, where I saw firsthand how meaningful support can change lives. I work with individuals facing addiction, anxiety, depression, and overwhelming stress, and I believe healing happens best in a safe, nonjudgmental space. My approach is compassionate and collaborative, focused on helping you better understand yourself, build on your strengths, and move toward lasting, positive change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other and understanding what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask about your experiences, challenges, and goals, and you’ll have the chance to share what feels most important to you. Together, we’ll explore what a supportive space looks like for you and start identifying steps toward the changes you want to see. The first session is a safe, judgment-free opportunity to ask questions, set goals, and decide if my approach feels like the right fit for you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As a therapist, my greatest strengths lie in my deep understanding of life's inevitable changes and my ability to provide compassionate support through them. I am skilled at helping clients navigate both minor and overwhelming transitions, guiding them through challenges with empathy and expertise. My approach is rooted in **restoring hope**, **building inner strength**, and empowering clients to believe in themselves again. I focus on **growth and transformation**, helping individuals understand that even during difficult times, positive change is possible, one step at a time. At the core of my work is a commitment to **emotional and mental well-being**, providing quality counseling that prioritizes the unique needs of each individual.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I’m passionate about working with adults who are navigating big life transitions. Over the years, I’ve helped people manage depression, anxiety, substance use, stress, and feelings of loneliness, and I take pride in supporting each person as they find new ways to grow and move forward. I also have a particular focus on older adults, understanding the unique challenges that come with aging—adjusting to retirement, coping with grief and loss, and dealing with social isolation. My approach is compassionate and client-centered, tailored to meet each person where they are, and focused on helping them build resilience, clarity, and a greater sense of fulfillment in their lives.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

As a therapist using Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), my role is to help clients identify their strengths, resources, and potential solutions to their current challenges, rather than focusing on the problem or its origins. SFBT is a future-focused, goal-directed approach that is typically shorter-term, aiming to create meaningful change in a brief amount of time. My primary focus is on what is working in the client's life, helping them leverage these strengths to create solutions and build confidence in their ability to overcome difficulties.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP)

As a therapist using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), my role is to help clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns, behaviors, and emotions that contribute to their distress.

EMDR

I was recently trained in EMDR Therapy in July 2022. As a therapist trained in EMDR, my role is to help clients process and heal from trauma or distressing memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge and allows them to integrate these experiences in a more adaptive, healthier way.

Supportive

As a therapist using supportive treatment modalities, my role is to create a safe and compassionate space where my clients feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgment. I aim to provide emotional support by actively listening to their concerns and validating their experiences. My primary focus is not to fix or solve their problems, but rather to help them feel understood and empowered to explore their own feelings and strengths.

Trauma-Focused CBT

My role is to guide my clients through a structured, evidence-based process that helps them understand and process the emotional and psychological impact of trauma.

Shameka was really warm and kind in a setting where I was getting my bearings and figuring out how I feel she was a really helpful presence. I'm excited to continue working with her.
