Have you been thinking about starting therapy, but feeling overwhelmed by the process of finding someone who will be easy to talk to and a good fit for your needs? Making a decision to begin counseling can bring hope and relief, and also be scary or intimidating. My desire is to create a safe and comfortable refuge where you can explore and express feelings, identify solutions, and grow in your ability to develop healthy, supportive relationships. I love working with people of any age, including teens and children, and use approaches that have been shown by research to be helpful and effective. I received my B.A. in Psychology from UCLA, and my MA in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. I loved the focus on science and research in my education, and carry that into my therapy work. Many clients have told me they really benefit from understanding what is actually happening in their brains and bodies, and how to best help the brain heal and function more effectively. Additionally, as a musician and artist, I understand the value of creative, non-verbal methods for healing and growth. Incorporating your spiritual or religious orientation into therapy can be a vital part of the healing process, so I work from a faith-based approach when you desire. I became licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California in 2005 and in Texas in 2006. I have worked in private practice, as well as in a non-profit agency with adults experiencing a wide variety of circumstances and needs. Throughout my time as a therapist, I have considered it a true honor to be part of the journey of my clients, and to offer my expertise and guidance as they grow and thrive.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session will be a time for us to get to know each other--for you to get a feel for whether my experience and approach are the right fit for you, and for me to learn more about your goals and needs, and important background information that will help me tailor your treatment to be most effective.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My biggest goal is to help you feel safe and supported, so that you can feel free to explore thoughts and feelings in an open and non-judgmental way. I am very interactive in sessions, so that you will learn and be able to practice skills. As a marriage and family therapist, I also have a unique perspective to help you understand relationship dynamics and develop trust and intimacy with partners, family, and friends.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
Retired adults, career development, parents, partnered (as individuals), Christians, LGBTQIA, college students, artists/creatives
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT has been well researched to be beneficial for helping reduce depression and anxiety. I continually update my training and have been utilizing CBT effectively for over 17 years.

I had the pleasure of working with Sheryl, and even though we had to wrap up because I moved out of state, I can’t recommend her enough. She made me feel totally comfortable. She’s warm and has a fantastic sense of humor, and she never made our sessions feel stiff or formulaic. She kept up with my scattered thoughts and always asked the right questions to make me feel heard. I’m definitely going to miss her. Anyone considering her as a therapist should absolutely not hesitate to book with her.

Sheryl is the best! She has been my therapist for about 6 years now, and I am so glad that even though she moved, I am still able to have her! She is very welcoming and warm and always knows how to make it better. I really appreciate how she has been there for me.
