Hi! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC, LCPC) based in Washington, DC and Maryland. specializing in individual therapy. I am a Washington, DC Native who attended undergraduate school in Jackson, MS and attended the University of Phoenix and graduated with a Master of Science degree in Psychology with a specialization in counseling. I have over 15 years of experience providing support to individuals, children and their families in the Washington, DC and Maryland area who have been diagnosed with a mood disorder. Are you dealing with issues that you are afraid to speak about due to not knowing how you will be portrayed? I understand the impact that mental health can have on one’s functioning and the unknowns of being unable to figure out life. I grew up in the inner city and have experienced many trials which have made me the person I am today. I provide a non-judgmental safe space to deal with issues surrounding Domestic Violence, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Bipolar I, Dysthymia and more.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. I will also provide education surrounding mental health to provide more insight on how stressful experiences can impact one’s overall functioning.
My greatest strength as a provider is being able to build strong rapports with others through understanding and empathy.
I have a passion for helping people. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as my main approach in helping people who are experiencing a mood disorder in an effort to reshape negative beliefs into healthier beliefs that will be able to change your thoughts, feelings and behaviors over time. We all have been through things that have changed the way we think, feel and behave. I just want to help you work through these issues to become the best YOU that you can be.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps people change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. I use this technique to develop solutions by first generating a detailed description of how the individual’s life will be different when the problem is gone, or their situation improved to a degree satisfactory to them. I utilize this technique for people who may not have a history of mental health issues but may often experience stressors/problems that contribute to mental health symptoms.
