About me

My name is Jasmine Ricks, and I am a Licensed Therapist in Texas, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. My mission is to empower individuals by equipping them with practical tools, insight, and support that make a meaningful difference in their everyday lives. I’m committed to creating a nonjudgmental, welcoming space where you can show up as you are and explore the challenges and stressors that are impacting your mental health and overall well-being. Together, we’ll work toward greater clarity, resilience, and a stronger sense of self as you move through life.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is an intake appointment. We’ll talk about your needs, your history, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. I’ll ask questions to understand your goals, and together we’ll create an initial plan that feels supportive and tailored to you. This plan is not fixed — it’s ongoing work that we can adjust at any time as your needs evolve. You’re encouraged to share at your own pace, and we’ll move forward collaboratively.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Since 2015, I have provided a number of specialty therapeutic services including working with individuals, couples, and families with a focus on multiculturalism, trauma, and relationships. As a LMFT, I received a formal education and extensive training to uniquely equip me to work with clients by understanding the importance of the broader influences impacting an individual's life such as family, community, society, race, gender, and orientation. I also understand the direct and indirect impact of being a member of a marginalized group in today's society. I am aware of the importance of having a therapist who gets it. I give my clients permission to be their authentic unapologetic selves. I want my clients to feel understood, heard, and seen.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with clients who are ready for honest, grounded, and culturally aware therapy. Many of the people I serve are navigating relationship challenges, identity concerns, life transitions, trauma, or the emotional weight of being underrepresented or misunderstood in their environments. I am especially attuned to individuals who value depth, self-awareness, and accountability, and who are looking for a therapist who understands the influence of culture, family patterns, and societal pressures on their wellbeing. Whether you’re seeking healthier relationships, stronger boundaries, emotional regulation, or a clearer sense of self, I am here to help you make sense of your experiences and move toward the life you want with support, clarity, and compassion.

My treatment methods

Family Therapy

I use a Family Therapy / Systemic approach to help individuals, couples, and families navigate challenges and improve their relationships. This approach recognizes that we are all influenced by the systems around us — including family, community, culture, and society — and that lasting change often happens when we address these patterns together. With a systemic approach, I collaborate with you to: Understand relationships and patterns: Explore how family dynamics and broader systems impact your current challenges. Improve communication: Develop practical strategies to strengthen connections and resolve conflicts. Support all members: Work with each family member’s strengths to foster healthier interactions and mutual understanding. Create meaningful change: Focus on solutions and strategies that can be applied in everyday life to improve family functioning. My training and experience allow me to combine this approach with multicultural awareness, trauma-informed care, and relational expertise, so you and your family can feel understood, supported, and empowered to make positive changes.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients create meaningful, lasting change in their lives. This approach is goal-oriented, practical, and strengths-based, which means we focus on your goals, your existing strengths, and the solutions that will work for you — rather than dwelling on problems or the past. With SFBT, I collaborate with you to: Clarify your goals: Identify what you want to achieve in therapy. Build on your strengths: Use your past successes and personal resources to overcome challenges. Focus on solutions: Develop practical strategies and tools you can use immediately. Track progress: Regularly check in to adjust our plan so it stays aligned with your goals.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

My Approach I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients live more meaningful, values-driven lives. ACT focuses on building psychological flexibility — the ability to accept difficult thoughts and feelings while taking action toward the life you want. With ACT, I collaborate with you to: Clarify your values: Identify what truly matters to you and what you want your life to stand for. Increase mindfulness and awareness: Learn to observe thoughts and feelings without judgment, reducing their power to hold you back. Develop practical strategies: Use evidence-based tools to manage challenging emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Take committed action: Move toward meaningful goals, even in the presence of discomfort, stress, or uncertainty. My training and experience allow me to combine ACT with trauma-informed care, multicultural awareness, and relational expertise, helping you feel supported while making real progress toward the life you want to live.

Psychoeducation

I incorporate psychoeducation into therapy to help clients understand the factors that influence their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By learning about mental health, relationships, and coping strategies, clients gain the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions and create positive change. With psychoeducation, I collaborate with you to: Understand your experiences: Learn about the psychological, emotional, and relational patterns affecting your life. Develop coping skills: Gain practical strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges. Empower decision-making: Use knowledge to make choices aligned with your goals and values. Promote self-awareness: Increase understanding of yourself, your triggers, and your strengths. My training and experience allow me to integrate psychoeducation with multicultural awareness, trauma-informed care, and relational expertise, helping you feel informed, supported, and equipped to make meaningful progress in therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to stress, anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges. CBT is a practical, evidence-based approach that empowers clients to take control of their mental health. With CBT, I collaborate with you to: Identify unhelpful thoughts: Recognize patterns of thinking that may be causing distress. Challenge and reframe thinking: Learn strategies to replace negative or distorted thoughts with more balanced, realistic ones. Develop practical coping skills: Use tools and techniques to manage difficult emotions and situations effectively. Track progress: Monitor improvements and adjust strategies to ensure therapy aligns with your goals. My training and experience allow me to combine CBT with trauma-informed care, multicultural awareness, and relational expertise, helping you feel supported while making meaningful, lasting changes in your life.
