Do you ever feel like you’re five years old again, helpless to protect yourself? Maybe you think that as an adult you should be able to handle emotions more easily, but you are often unable to soothe yourself. That experience is more common than you think, and it frequently ties back to childhood experiences. It pains me to think of someone having to go through this alone, and it’s a big reason why I became a therapist. I’m passionate about helping people heal from the past, overcome their fears, and live up to their full potential. My role is to be your guide as you find ways to heal or effectively manage your symptoms.

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida, National Certified Counselor, and Ph.D. candidate in Counseling with a specialization in Family and Couple Therapy, I bring a compassionate, integrative, and culturally attuned approach to therapy. I view mental health as more than the absence of illness—it is a state of well-being where individuals can access their inner resources to manage life’s challenges and thrive. In my PhD-level clinical work, I use Bowen Family Systems Therapy as a diagnostic and relational framework, while integrating trauma-informed care, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and attachment-based approaches to tailor treatment to the unique needs of each individual, couple, or family. This multidimensional approach allows me to support healing from childhood trauma, strengthen marital and relational dynamics, and empower families navigating complex life transitions. With a background in Social Sciences and a master’s in clinical Mental Health Counseling, I combine academic rigor with practical experience. I have developed strong clinical skills in assessment, multicultural counseling, and individualized intervention planning. I am a bilingual therapist that uses a culturally competent lens to empower individuals. I utilize a down to earth, genuine, and caring approach to help clients build resilience, heal from life’s challenges, and unlock their own strengths. My parents came from Cuba in order to open up the doors for me to have what they never had the opportunity to obtain. I am the first person in my family to attend college and to this day the majority of my family does not speak English. My family raised me in a culture where family and relationships are highly valued. I feel very fortunate to have blended cultural values and morals, as this helps me better understand others from different cultures. Are you struggling with crippling guilt and anxiety? Are you caught in a spiral of worry or stress you can’t stop, constantly second-guessing yourself? You feel stuck in the loop of “what ifs”: “what if I fail?”, “what if I lose my job?”, etc. Has owning a business & battling the daily overwhelm of the constant anxious thoughts gotten to be more than you can handle? Are you a first/second gen who is feeling the exhaustion of being the first at everything? You're a tightrope walker, trying to balance others expectations with your own desires. You feel like you’re never “good enough” and are tired of the guilt. Is parenting an overachieving anxious teen leaving you feeling at a complete loss as to how to help them or where to even begin? Hi, I’m Tery, I specialize in anxiety with a special interest/focus in first/ second gen, entrepreneurs, and teens. If you’re looking for a therapist who can relate and will interweave authenticity with a refreshingly no-bullshit, direct approach, then you have come to the right place.

The quality of your relationships has left you feeling anxious depressed, frustrated, disconnected, unseen, unheard, guilty, alone… But this isn’t the end of your story. Growth and change are within your capacity. Healing within your power. Hi, I’m Cathe and I believe in our ability to break generational traumas, to heal from wounds inflicted by those who didn’t know how or didn’t have the capacity to show up for us; and to learn how to show up for ourselves. Throughout the years I’ve worked with individual who struggled with addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma and provided counseling services to military services member and their families while deployed overseas. I witnessed the significant impact that relationships can have on your overall wellbeing. From my own personal experience; as I worked to unlearn what was no longer serving me and to rediscover my worth, I was presented with how fundamentally transformative this process can be. It’s led me to learn how to live with greater peace, to create and sustain connections and to feel safe and secure in love. It’s not an easy process nor is it a painless journey but it’s worth it. As for my credentials... I earned my Master’s degree at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for the state of Florida and territory of Guam, a board certified Telemental Health Provider and a Master’s Level Certified Addiction Professional. I am also a Qualified Clinical Supervisor which allows me to provide supervision to registered interns for Mental Health Counseling within the state of Florida. Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me. I look forward to getting the chance to learn about you and hear your story.

Since becoming a counselor, I have worked in a variety of community counseling settings. I have worked with clients from ages 3 through 80 and with individuals, couples, and families. With that breadth of experience, very little shocks or surprises me and I have gotten a pretty good sense of where the types of counseling that play to my strengths as a counselor overlap with the types of counseling that are helpful for my clients. This sense (along with learning about lots and lots of research into what helps people find and maintain mental health) has led to the following guiding principles that shape all the counseling I do: 1) The client is always in charge. I know a lot of things but you will always be the one who decides what you want to get out of counseling, how we work towards that goal, whether or not what we’re doing seems to be working, and when we’re done. 2) Change and health happen through relationships. No matter what you come in for, there are always relational implications of change and relational factors that contribute to whatever it is that you came to counseling to change. 3) Counseling should be efficient. Counseling has significant costs in time and money. I think the benefits far outweigh the costs but if I can give you the benefits while helping you save on the costs then I want to do that.

Seeking therapy can feel scary but you're making the right choice. You deserve a safe space to heal and grow. I specialize in integrative individual and couples therapy for the mind and body. My perspective on therapy starts with the central belief that if you listen to your clients, they will always tell you what's going on. While that may seem very basic, unfortunately, there is very little listening going on these days. When we are listened to and are unconditionally respected and accepted, we instinctively have the right stuff inside of us to figure out our issues. That's how we become empowered . That's how we grow. Whether you're dealing with overwhelming anxiety, relationship issues or depression. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion, understanding and respect. And I will use the latest evidence-based techniques to support you in your journey Helping you find that inner strength and resolve is what makes me uniquely qualified to help.

My journey to you may be a little different than some other therapist. Over the years my professional experiences include a lengthy career in sales; working in the Long-Term Care Industry as an Admissions and Marketing Director as well as a Director of Social Services; community involvement as a HIV/AIDS Intervention Specialist; and the privilege of serving 10 years as a Licensed Pastor. I became a husband, a father, and now a grandfather. I’ve experienced the multiple joys and victories of life; as well as learning how to recover from self-inflicted defeats, and the consequences of choices we cannot change. So, I come to you not only as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, but as someone who brings the experience of reality to each of your therapy sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Florida rather than a city like Tampa?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Florida from Miami to Jacksonville! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Florida.

Will my therapist take UnitedHealthcare Life Insurance?

Yes! If you use UnitedHealthcare Life Insurance you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have UnitedHealthcare Life Insurance you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Couples Counseling?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Couples Counseling, is filtering therapists in Florida that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
