I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience counseling others around grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and chronic health issues. I have also helped many couples to repair trust, improve communication, and strengthen their emotional intimacy with each other. My therapy style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don’t believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, and meaning centered therapies. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take steps toward change. I am here to support and empower you on that journey.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together we will start with brief introductions then dive into the specific challenges you are facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow up sessions. I approach clients with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and will inquire about specific challenges that seem the most overwhelming right now. I will provide assessment tools for you to complete if you decide to work with me, so that I can gain an understanding of symptoms of depression and anxiety that may be present, then provide the opportunity to complete these later on to compare and gain information about how therapy may be impacting you positively by lessening symptoms.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a provider are my ability to empathize and provide compassion, as well as being an active listener, and having the ability to hone in on your strengths that will help you to achieve your therapy goals. I have a skillful ability to educate clients effectively around useful tools and information that can be implemented in daily life.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I educate clients about and use the CBT framework in identifying thoughts related to various issues, how they impact feelings, and the role they play in the behaviors we choose. Reframing can be very useful, and challenging anxious or negative thoughts in order to create shifts with our internal dialogue can be impactful as well.

Compassion Focused

I use Compassion focused strategies to help clients create kinder thinking habits for themselves and cultivate self compassion around current struggles as well as their personal history.

Couples Counseling

I utilize emotion focused therapy with couples to help them understand their attachments to each other in order to build on the couples bond. I also use Gottman strategies to educate couples about damaging dynamics that may be present in their relationship and facilitate more positive and effective communication strategies to implement in their relationship

Humanistic

I encourage and empower clients around the understanding that they have the wisdom and tools to manage problems and to make healthy choices for their lives. This includes facilitation of conversation around the clients’ level of self awareness, intuitive leanings of what is right or wrong for them by their own definition, and providing space for clients to share in a safe space without judgment.

Grief Therapy

I provide a space for clients to reflect on and explore the meaning the loss holds for them, and to begin to identify ways they would like to heal and move forward with a new normal after loss. I educate survivors of loss around grief symptoms, tasks of grief and morning, the difference between grief, mourning, and bereavement, and companion them on a journey of discovering that life can continue in meaningful ways after significant loss.
