Hi, I’m Carrie Houseman, LMHC, with over 15 years of experience helping clients overcome anxiety, trauma, and difficult relationship patterns. I specialize in evidence-based approaches, including Accelerated Resolution Therapy, that help people calm intense emotions and move forward with clarity. My approach is compassionate, practical, and focused on real change. Clients often begin learning tools in the very first session that help them regain emotional balance, build confidence, and create healthier relationships and a more fulfilling life.
Your first session is an opportunity to finally speak openly about what has been weighing on your mind. Many clients arrive feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or unsure how to move forward. This is a safe, supportive space where you can share your story freely and begin to feel understood. We will talk about the challenges that led you to counseling, the experiences that shaped you, and what you would like to see change in your life. I may ask a few questions about your background and goals so I can better understand your strengths and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Many clients leave their first session feeling lighter, more hopeful, and clearer about the path ahead. I also provide practical tools you can begin using immediately to calm intense emotions, manage stress, and regain a sense of control and confidence. Real change often begins with one honest conversation.
I'm not just another chat therapist. I specialize in CREATING CHANGE using powerful evidence-based approaches such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Emotional Freedom Technique, and somatic techniques that help calm the nervous system. Clients often report gaining meaningful insight and practical emotional regulation skills early in therapy. My background includes mobile crisis work providing emergency in-home evaluations and support for individuals and families during extremely difficult situations. This experience allows me to remain calm, focused, and effective even when emotions feel overwhelming. I also have extensive experience helping couples improve communication and conflict management, including facilitating marriage retreats for couples in crisis and providing follow-up relationship trainings. My goal is not only for clients to feel heard, but to leave sessions stronger, more hopeful, and equipped with tools they can use immediately
I work best with thoughtful people who feel exhausted by difficult relationships, emotional overwhelm, or patterns that seem to repeat in their lives. Many of my clients have spent years putting others first and now feel discouraged, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. I am especially passionate about empowering women and girls to rediscover their confidence, trust their voice, and recognize their unique strengths. Together we focus on building self-respect, setting healthy boundaries, and creating relationships based on mutual respect and emotional safety. I also work with couples who feel stuck in repeating conflicts or carrying unresolved hurts. Through guided communication and conflict-resolution skills, couples learn to understand each other more deeply, repair trust, and rebuild emotional connection. My clients are often motivated people who want more than temporary relief. They are ready to understand their patterns, build new skills, and create meaningful change in their lives and relationships.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
There are times when you are facing a highly distressing situation and need to find emotional stability immediately and find solutions quickly. I use Tapping/EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) which can provide relief and empowerment quickly and effectively.
Family Therapy
I have experience in helping families go from frustrated and embattled to calm and confident. You will be provided with simple steps that can create change from the very first session. I have facilitated retreats for couples in crisis throughout the USA. If you are looking for more than positive platitudes and encouragements to "try date nights", you have come to the right place.
Trauma-Focused CBT
If you have experienced a single traumatic event or a lifetime of traumatic events, there is hope for you. Many clients report significant relief after just 1 session of A.R.T. (accelerated resolution therapy). I will work with you to resolve traumatic memories and learn new ways of feeling safe and confident in the world. I also utilize TF-CBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) which is especially helpful for children who have experienced molestation or other traumatic events. I am confident in my ability to lead you and your family from the initial shock and overwhelm to a place of confidence and calm. This protocol has proven successful for thousands of families throughout the world.
Psychoeducation
I am able to provide insights in to how your mind and body function and interact with your emotional state. This is a starting point of being enlightened, aware and empowered.
