Hello, my name is Shakira Barbarossa, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. My journey to becoming a mental health provider began with a passion for helping others navigate life's challenges. Over the years, I have a combined education, training, and real-world experience to develop a compassionate, collaborative approach that empowers clients to grow, heal, and reach their goals. I love what I do.
In our first session, we will get to know each other. We’ll discuss your background and what brings you to therapy. We will talk about the therapy process and your expectations. Therapy is a process, and we’ll continue to build our work together over time.
I believe that a strong and trusting bond in counseling allows the client to feel comfortable and secure in sharing thoughts and feelings, which allows a process of healing and personal growth. I offer a safe space to explore your story, untangle old wounds, and reconnect with your inner strength. Together, we'll navigate what's holding you back and make space for what's possible. Yo hablo ESPAÑOL y se lo importante que es poder expresar las emociones en su lenguaje y con exactitud.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In my practice, I often use CBT, which focuses on the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we explore patterns that might be keeping you stuck and practice new ways of thinking and coping that feel more supportive and empowering. Over the years, I've seen how CBT helps people gain real, practical tools they can use right away to manage anxiety, depression, and every day challenges. My experience has taught me that even small shifts in thinking can create meaningful changes in how you feel and move through life.
EMDR
I like to use EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing because it helps people heal from trauma or distressing life experiences by reprocessing painful memories so they no longer trigger intense emotional or physical reactions.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
This approach works with our parts and where they originate. When we refer to "this part of me wants this" we will study how your parts connect with experiences, past traumas, and our childhood.

I had my first session with today and it was a wonderful experience. From the moment we began, she created a calm and welcoming space that made it easy to open up. She truly listens and allows you to fully express yourself without interrupting, which made me feel heard and respected. She has such a gentle and calming presence, and you can tell she genuinely cares. I left my first session feeling supported and grateful to have found her. I’m really looking forward to continuing our work together.
