Sometimes life just overwhelms you, and this is one of those times. Are you tired, frustrated, even confused about how to proceed? I can assist you in managing to work your way through the issue and into creating a life you love. Birth, death, marriage, divorce, empty nest, career problems are all life cycle events. When one or more of these occur, it seems to throw everything else in your life off- kilter. Avoiding the issue has not helped, and you may not know exactly how to go about addressing it. Hello! I am Dinorah Escala, a mental health counselor licensed in the state of Florida. I have over a decade of experience collaborating with clients from diverse cultural, ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds. I have advanced training in the preparation of immigration evaluations (Hardship Waivers, Cancellation of Removal, VAWA, Asylum, T & U Visas and more). I also hold a mater's degree in Business Administration and certification as an Interpreter/Translator (Spanish/English). Before becoming a therapist, I held positions in the US Government and private (IT) sector. However, my passion for learning about human behavior led me to a final shift to mental health and coaching. My exposure to diverse cultures and personal experience after residing in different countries allows me to better understand the specific challenges faced by the immigrant community, especially from the female perspective. I also help clients dealing with stress, anxiety and depression that usually arise from the challenges of day-to-day living or life changes.

I have significant experience working with youth (6+) through adults, in multiple forms of therapy, whether it be individual, couples, group, and/or family therapy sessions. Through my career, I have worked at several long-term addiction treatment facilities, multiple schools (K-12), group homes, as well as in private practice. I have experience using a variety of treatment modalities, including art therapy, play therapy (children), mindfulness/meditation, and cognitive behavioral therapy (especially Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy).

I have also worked with those who have lost everything to the ravishes of substance use and with men serving life in prison. I have over three decades of experience as a husband, father, grandfather, youth pastor, counselor and university professor. I have worked in the church, private practice (in Florida and the Bahamas), community mental health (specializing in crisis and families with at-risk-adolescents), foster care, substance abuse, juvenile justice and the prisons. I have maintained my relevance by teaching at the university level, advising a best-selling author on the psychological aspects of his book, and serving as a consultant to other mental health agencies. I have wonderful experience working with anxiety, depression, anger, parenting issues, challenging children and teenagers, grief, trauma, substance use issues, family and relationship issues, LGBT issues, and other issues and concerns. I have helped my clients find peace with themselves, with others and in their situations. I have helped my clients find happiness, even amid loss. I have helped my clients find belonging and love in healthy and supportive relationships. I have helped my clients increase their ability to succeed by changing their thinking. One of the foundations of my life and my work was written by M. Scott Peck in The Road Less Travelled. He wrote, “Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths… Life is a series of problems. Do we want to moan about them or solve them? Do we want to teach our children to solve them?” Let’s start today to solve some of life’s problems and to begin to grasp peace, happiness, love and success.

Lakisha professional accomplishments include obtaining a License in Mental Health Counselor, License in Certified Addiction Professional, License in Juvenile Sex Offender Treatment, and Eye Movement Reprocessing, Desensitization(EMDR) certified therapist. Lakisha is a Florida state board certified qualifying supervisor for mental health counselors, clinical social workers, and marriage/family therapists. Lastly, Lakisha is a Florida Certification Board trainer for continued education units(CEUs) with mental health counseling, marriage family therapy, clinical social work, and certified behavioral case manager. Lakisha is very passionate about trauma specifically complex trauma and how it correlates with personality disorders that she is currently in the process of publishing her first book which is expected to be released by summer of 2026.
