He is a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) in Georgia, a Qualified Supervisor (QS) in Florida, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) through the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia. David earned a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Webster University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a Minor in Business Administration from Saint Leo University. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to professional development and has spent more than 15 years studying the work of Alfred Adler, MD (Adlerian Psychology), William Glasser, MD (Reality Therapy), and John Gottman, Ph.D. (The Gottman Method for Couples Counseling). From 2013 to 2018, David served on the Board of Directors for the Florida Adlerian Society, helping plan and facilitate the organization’s annual educational conference in Safety Harbor, Florida. His dedication to education and mentorship continues today through his work supervising and training the next generation of mental health and substance abuse professionals.
David utilizes an integrative counseling approach tailored to the unique needs of each client. His clinical work draws from Adlerian Psychology, Reality Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and evidence-based trauma treatment modalities. In 2021, he completed specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), an innovative eye-movement-based therapy that has demonstrated significant effectiveness in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, intrusive thoughts, and other emotional challenges. David has witnessed remarkable outcomes with ART and considers it a valuable tool in helping clients achieve relief and lasting healing. Whether working with individuals seeking personal growth, couples striving to strengthen their relationships, or clients navigating addiction recovery and trauma, David is committed to creating a supportive, collaborative, and results-oriented therapeutic experience. His goal is to help clients identify their strengths, overcome obstacles, and build fulfilling lives aligned with their values and goals.
David’s diverse professional background includes work within the insurance industry, the Florida Department of Corrections, the Tampa Court System’s Victim Assistance Program, community-based behavioral health services, and hospital settings. He also owned and operated a successful group counseling practice in St. Petersburg, Florida for nearly ten years. In addition, David managed a nonprofit behavioral health assessment program, directed a Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and served as Clinical Director of a substance abuse treatment facility. This broad range of experience has given him a unique understanding of human behavior, resilience, and the process of personal transformation.
I specialize in helping adults, couples, and professionals who are seeking meaningful, lasting change in their lives and relationships. With more than 20 years of clinical experience, I am particularly well equipped to work with individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, stress, burnout, and addiction recovery. My clients are often high-functioning people who have achieved success in many areas of life but feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected and are ready to move beyond simply managing symptoms toward creating lasting personal growth. My integrative approach combines Adlerian Psychology, Reality Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the Gottman Method for couples, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to provide practical, evidence-based treatment tailored to each client's unique needs and goals. My extensive experience in private practice, behavioral health leadership, substance abuse treatment, hospitals, corrections, and victim services allows me to confidently work with both straightforward and complex clinical concerns while fostering a collaborative, supportive, and results-oriented therapeutic relationship.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
This is an evidence-based approach that helps people identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to emotional distress. By learning practical skills to challenge negative thoughts, develop healthier coping strategies, and make positive behavioral changes, clients can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, and other mental health concerns while building greater resilience and confidence.
Adlerian
Adlerian Therapy is a holistic, goal-oriented approach that helps clients understand how their life experiences, beliefs, and relationships influence the choices they make today. In my work, I use Adlerian principles to help clients identify their strengths, gain insight into unhelpful patterns, develop a greater sense of purpose and belonging, and make intentional changes that support healthier relationships and a more fulfilling life.
Couples Counseling
I help couples understand how their thoughts, choices, and behaviors influence the quality of their relationship. I use Choice Theory to help partners improve communication, take responsibility for their own actions, meet each other's emotional needs in healthier ways, and build stronger, more satisfying relationships. The Gottman Method is an evidence-based approach to couples counseling that focuses on strengthening friendship, improving communication, managing conflict effectively, and rebuilding trust and connection. Using research-backed interventions, I help couples develop practical skills that foster healthier, more resilient, and lasting relationships.
Reality Therapy
Reality Therapy is a practical, present-focused approach that helps clients examine whether their current choices and behaviors are effectively meeting their needs and supporting the life they want to create. In my work, I help clients identify what they can control, take responsibility for meaningful change, and develop realistic, effective strategies that align with their values, goals, and relationships.
