What effect do you hope that therapy will have on your life? Are you looking for someone to support you in difficult times? Is it your goal to thrive, rather than just survive? Perhaps you want to explore past events and see how they might be affecting your present. My name is Teresa, and I would be honored to walk with you as you navigate life. I work with individuals who have taken on the role of caregiver, whether professional or personal, in avoiding burnout and compassion fatigue. I empower others in creating and enforcing boundaries. I also assist individuals in cultivating a strong sense of self-worth. I guide individuals who are processing trauma and provide support and care. I support individuals of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and religions. I am nonjudgmental and supportive of individuals who are in any stage of recovery from substances or any other addictions. I hope to create a genuine, caring environment (yes, even in teletherapy!) exhibiting acceptance and celebration of who you truly are.
In our first session, I will ask you questions about your responses on the intake form, speak about the limits of confidentiality, and generally get to know you. I also like to speak about your goals in and out of therapy.
I truly believe that my biggest strength is identifying clients' strengths. I am passionate about helping every person to create a sense of self-worth that enables them to know that they deserve a happy life. I work with clients who struggle with accepting their emotions. Additionally, I know all too well the effects of caregiver and/or work burnout. I feel that it is critical that individuals explore past trauma and how it has continued to affect their lives. I will gently guide you through talking about your trauma and validate your feelings. I counsel clients as they learn body acceptance. I ensure that our sessions are safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental.
I am happy to work with preteens/teens, adults, and older adults.
Acceptance and commitment therapy teaches us to allow ourselves to feel and express our feelings, accepting that though they may be difficult or uncomfortable, we can handle feeling them. I use ACT in therapy sessions when my clients feel they must distract themselves from these feelings, which often leads to bigger and more difficult emotions to process.
If you have anxiety, you probably have a lot of self-critical thoughts. I like to empower my clients to talk back to those hurtful thoughts! To paraphrase Wayne Dyer, don't believe all you think-- some of those thoughts aren't true and don't serve you!
Person-centered therapy can assist clients with low self-worth by affirming worth, supporting clients with setting boundaries, and empowering clients to take control of their lives.
