Welcome, A counseling relationship is often necessary to effectuate meaningful change--identifying and interrupting maladaptive patterns and building new ones. We’ll examine your history, resolve current challenges, and map a clear path to your goals. I specialize in brief, focused therapy that can result in relief from depression and anxiety, plus targeted treatment for accumulated trauma (combat, childhood physical/sexual abuse, emotional neglect, poverty, loss).
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session, here’s what I gently ask of you: Bring whatever you’re ready to share—even if it feels messy, small, or uncertain. There’s no need to have it all figured out. Be as honest as you can in the moment; you don’t have to tell me everything, but try not to hide what feels most important. Let yourself notice and name what you’re feeling as we talk. If emotions come up, you’re welcome to feel them here—they’re safe with me. If something I say doesn’t land right, or if you need me to slow down, pause, or explain, please tell me. Your feedback helps us build real trust right from the start. This is your space, and your openness—even in small doses—is what allows us to begin the real work together. That’s all I need from you: just you, showing up as you are. In our first session, you’ll feel heard, seen, and understood as we team up against your challenges. We’ll outline a plan to improve how you feel about yourself, your relationships, and the world, while identifying losses and exploring coping strategies. By the end, you’re likely to sense some progress, clarity, and relief.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
Clients often look at me, a little startled, and ask, “How did you know that? I barely said anything.” That moment always feels like a gift to me, because it means something that’s been living quietly inside them—patterns in their thoughts, emotions, or habits—is finally being seen and named for the first time. My job isn’t to invent anything new. It’s to listen closely, hold up a gentle mirror, and help illuminate what’s already there—especially the parts that are hard to spot when you’re the one living them every day. From there, we look together at what serves you, what no longer does, and what might be ready to soften or shift. When depression or anxiety are left in the dark, they tend to grow heavier over time, often without us fully noticing until the distance between us and ourselves—or between us and the people we love—feels painfully wide. One of the clearest signs that things are moving in a healing direction is when that inner and outer connection starts feeling warmer, safer, and more forgiving again. I’m here to walk beside you in that—at exactly the pace that feels right for you—offering guidance that’s as direct or as subtle as you need in any given moment.
