Simply put, I don't think therapy has to be a painful thing for you. Starting this step can be hard and I would love the opportunity to work with you on this journey.

I have treatment specific interest in treating anxiety disorders and the inevitable complications with daily life struggles that develop with anxiety-based symptoms. Anxiety is often linked to events that were experienced as traumatic or confusing in childhood or during our adult lives. I'm a psychotherapist with 35-plus years of experience. After completing training in clinical social work and psychology at the University of Maryland (M.S.W., 1988) and Saybrook Institute (Ph.D., 1991), I began practicing as a family, couples and individual therapist. I have hosted on radio/podcasts, have written two books and thousands of self-help articles in my "Life's a Beach" column for nationwide Gannett media. I love working with clients in the here-and-now, and finding solutions to move forward with life. My primary goal is to help you help yourself. I will guide and coach you, not tell you what to do. Diagnostic labels are useful at times, but you are not your labels. I'm your thinking partner: We'll reason and think our way to what makes sense together.
My work as a therapist has given me the privilege of supporting people from many different backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life. Through these experiences, I've come to appreciate that while our stories are unique, many of us share similar struggles: wanting to feel connected, understood, accepted, and at peace within ourselves. I view therapy as a collaborative process rooted in curiosity, self compassion, and growth. Whether you're navigating a difficult chapter or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I aim to provide a space where healing, insight, and meaningful change can emerge.

Hello! I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in the heart of Virginia. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in 2020 and have been practicing as a counselor for the past six years.
My approach to therapy is grounded in validation, compassion, and hope. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and that even when things feel overwhelming or uncertain, you have the ability to create meaningful change. My role is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to move toward the person you want to be.
I work primarily with adolescents and young adults navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, self-esteem, parenting, and the many changes that come with different stages of life. I especially value working with individuals and families who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of where to begin.
Therapy doesn’t have to be about “fixing” who you are. Sometimes, it’s about understanding yourself more deeply, recognizing your strengths, and finding the tools and confidence to move forward. Wherever you are in your journey, I would be honored to walk alongside you.
You may be the person everyone depends on. The one who keeps going, handles what needs to be done, and looks like you have it all together. But inside, you may feel anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted, or simply not like yourself anymore. Maybe you're facing a difficult transition or realizing that the ways you've always coped just aren't working anymore. I'm Jessica Velazquez, a bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over ten years of experience working with adolescents, adults, and families.
I'm a Bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with 19 years of clinical experience, 15 years licensed within private practice.
I consider myself to be bicultural. Having been raised as a first-generation American in a Latin family, I can identify with the mentality of someone living within two "worlds". Transitioning from one culture to another with seemingly different values, beliefs and language. I can easily understand the struggle that maintaining, and existing in both, can sometimes be. I've come to perceive and appreciate it as the gift of having a "bridge" that allows connection to, and understanding of, different aspects of people and life.
My education has a foundation in Clinical Psychology, woven with holistic transpersonal themes, the connection between mind, body, and spirit, and just plain down-to-earth common sense. Always keeping in mind the client's personal beliefs and values.

It is my most sincere belief that everyone deserves to live a life they enjoy living. And it is my belief that the ability to indulge in this is already inside you. As your therapist I am here to simply help you uncover and source what is already there. I invite you to become curious about yourself in the safe container of our sessions so that you can cultivate self-compassion in this process. I am EMDR therapy trained and with that in addition to polyvagal and somatic informed tools I will help you along your path of self-discovery.
In my practice, I combine traditional and nontraditional methods to help you heal and explore through a process that is playful, accepting, and empathetic. During our sessions, we will focus on cultivating the awareness and skills that will help you find YOU. “we are all just walking eachother home” -ram das
