LCSW, 13 years of experience
I'm glad you're here. Reaching out for support is a powerful first step, and you don't have to do this alone. Hi, I'm Shimyne Homidas, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and the heart behind: In Herr Space. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with children, teens, adults, and families as they move through major life transitions, whether it's emotional healing, relationship shifts, identity work, or rebuilding after crisis. As a therapist, I strive to advocate, educate, guide, and empower. My approach is rooted in compassion and respect, with a focus on helping each client build insight, strengthen coping skills, and reconnect with their inner resilience.
My approach is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and practical. I combine tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Strengths-Based Therapy to help you build coping skills, understand your emotions, and feel more in control of your life.
Mission: Finding your strength: in your space. Core Value: You're not meant to do this alone.
I specialize in working with teens who are navigating self-harm, intense emotions, and mental health challenges such as borderline personality disorder, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I also support adults, especially single parents, who are going through or healing from divorce, helping them find stability, confidence, and strength in their own space. In Herr Space is just that: a space for individuals to feel seen, heard, supported, and not alone.
Think of DBT like a toolbox full of real-life skills for dealing with big emotions, tough relationships, stress, and even those times when your thoughts feel totally overwhelming. It doesn't make your problems disappear; it teaches you how to deal with them in a way that makes life manageable.
Remember, “The way you think affects the way you feel and act, so if you can learn to catch and change unhelpful thoughts, you can change your mood and your behavior too.” CBT can help you feel more in control of your emotions, your thoughts, and your life.
Imagine this: Your mind is racing, you're thinking about that text you shouldn't have sent, a test you might fail, what your friends really think of you, and suddenly you're spiraling. Mindfulness-Based Therapy helps you pause, breathe, and actually notice what's going on in your body, your mind, and the world around you without freaking out or judging yourself. It's like learning how to sit with your emotions instead of getting totally pulled under by them.
Strengths-Based Therapist is simple, instead of focusing on your struggles, mistakes, or labels, it helps you see your strengths, your resilience, and what makes you YOU, even if life's been hard.
