With couples and families, I use an emotionally-focused approach that helps people become more comfortable with being vulnerable with people that are important to them. Becoming vulnerable helps people focus on discussing how they are impacted by others and what they need from them instead of blaming and criticism. Taking such a stance increases the chance that listeners will remain attentive instead of becoming defensive.
Providing therapy, being a listener and helping others in essence found me. I did not initially plan to become a therapist but I am so happy and proud I did.
