My name is Theresa Miller and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. For 17 years I have worked with children, teens, adults and seniors, helping address life challenges they are encountering. I want to help you live the life you desire. We all have times in our lives when we feel out of synch and need help sorting through the issues. My philosophy is that positive attitudes and actions create positive results. Throughout my career I have been counselling and helping people from all walks of life in a variety of settings. My style of counselling is very eclectic using techniques from a variety of therapeutic approaches. Together we will discover what works best for you. You will find me an empathetic listener, here to help you explore different perspectives of your situation.
In our first session we will talk about the current challenge you are facing. We will examine the different approaches that can be used to help and decide how we will proceed. We will talk about both of our expectations during these therapy sessions then set a time for our next meeting,
My greatest strength is the ability to be an empathetic listen. Professional and life experiences bring me to a place where I am able to hear my client's story without judgement. I am able to help the client decide what challenge they want to focus on first. I utilize a short term solution based model so that you and I can measure the progress being made.
I enjoy helping clients of all ages and am comfortable heIping with all of life's challenges. Sometimes clients just need to work through perplexing issues. I have experience working with trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship and career related issues. Not all therapists are right for everyone. Let’s talk and see if we are compatible. Then we can start on the path to wellness.
CBT involves identifying the main issue a person is seeking treatment for and helping to reframe the way they see their situation. Often a person repeats their response to certain situations and by helping them see things differently they are able to manage their response.
For most of us, our lives are being bombarded by many external stimuli such as constant negative news stories, work issues, family responsabilites, children's extra curricular activities and the feeling that we should be doing more. We feel that we are never doing enough or fear we are missing out. Through Mindfullness-Based Therapy my clients learn to be present in the moment and fully participate in the current activity. This helps curb their anxiety and calms their fears of not doing enough leading to a more enjoyable life.
Meeting the client where they are is an intregal part of practice. By drawing from different methods of treatment we find what works best for helping the client face their current life challenges. In most cases, using a short term, solution based model helps to show measurable progress for both of us and allows us to change our approach if needed. Not all people react the same way to certain methods so it is important to remain open to different stategies. Helping the client find effective ways to cope and find contentment in life is the goal.
