Hello, my name is Teresa, practicing mental health for over 16 years working with the military population. Working as a middle school teacher in a lower socioeconomic area. This led to my desire to go back to school for my master’s degree in counseling psychology. Receiving my LPC licensure, led me to pursue my chemical dependency counselor license (LCDC). I began working as a substance abuse counselor with the US Army in substance abuse counseling. While working with the military I worked at a local hospital developing a program for civilians in chemical dependency. The need to work with individuals, and families including Service Members, led me to work as a contractor for private corporations. During this time, I received a certification in behavioral therapy to work with the autism spectrum population. Raised as a military dependent, then wife and mother, I experienced many aspects of different personalities. I was led to understand what it means to try to hide who you are to eventually become someone you may not recognize.
The goal is to have you see, life is wonderful, we go through the storm to appreciate the sunshine. The experience developed led me to work with addiction, anxiety, PTSD, and many other mental health issues. We are a beautiful bouquet with different views on life. Using an eclectic therapeutic array of mental health care has allotted me to develop individual care. This concept of care is the same for couples and group therapy. Some techniques include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychosocial therapeutic techniques.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has been practicing counseling for over 7 years. I have been in private practice for over 5 years and primarily work with individuals that are dealing with trauma, existential crises or are adjusting to interpersonal relational issues. I specialize in mood disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression and anger), processing trauma, and with improving relationships. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and reside in Texas, I am also licensed in Colorado, Florida, Utah, South Carolina, and Vermont. I specialize in helping you identify and overcome issues that hinder your day-to-day enjoyment of life and/or interfere with progress towards goals you have set. In over thirty years of private practice counseling I have learned to meet clients’ needs not only with continued education and research but also through a multitude of life experiences. I enjoy working with a diverse range of clients and have found that humor when utilized in an appropriate way and time can be very beneficial.
I believe trust is a fundamental element in any relationship. This trust has to be developed and nurtured to remain genuine. Through trust other aspects important to the relationship can prosper such as comfort in being open, sincerity, and a willingness to change. I find that humor when utilized in an appropriate way and time can be very beneficial. I am a life-long Texan, however, I have traveled extensively and embraced many different cultures and location specific issues. Through all of life’s changes I have learned that, even with the best of plans, things still do not always work out the way we would like. I have experienced many of the same issues as my clients so can relate to them on a personal basis. This has also allowed me to acquire an understanding of what clients may be going through even if I have not experienced the exact situation. Through any adversity there is no reason to feel alone.

Trauma hurts. It can be sudden, life-altering and overwhelming, or chronic, subtle and nearly unnoticeable, but either way it can change the way we think about others, the world, and unfortunately, ourselves. Dealing with the aftermath—changes in our relationships, lashing out toward self or others, feeling nothing and/or everything all at once—is sometimes as hard as the initial event, especially when society, friends and family and our own minds tell us to “just get over it.” Worse, sometimes we aren’t even sure where the trauma came from in the first place, leaving us confused and even feeling hopeless. If you could just “get over it,” you would, but sometimes the brain simply cannot process traumatic events without help, and this is why trauma therapy exists. :)
I'm an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in Texas. I've been in practice for nearly 15 years and have been doing EMDR therapy for 13 of those. I teach them how to build boundaries and follow through, and to treat themselves with self-compassion rather than judgment and harsh expectations.
Trauma doesn’t have to ruin (or run) your life. If you’re hurting, please know I’d be happy to help in any way I can.
