Hi, I'm Aaron. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) working out of the state of Texas. I've been in the behavioral health field for about 12 years helping people of all ages overcome mental health struggles and issues with substance use and process addictions. I was called to this work because my own struggles with depression and substance abuse, and, though I had to struggle in order to get where I am, I feel so grateful for my experiences. I have a passion for mindfulness and compassion in my work and like to incorporate breathing techniques and music whenever possible because, frankly, these are things that have worked well for me! I have also adopted Polyvagal Therapy- a cutting-edge modality in our field- as one of my go-to approaches. Polyvagal therapy will help you to understand the power of the mind-body connection while improving your relationship with yourself and the world around you. I'm also a huge proponent of yoga and Brazilian jiu jitsu as healing arts and would encourage ANYONE to try them out.
In our first session together, we will get to know one another and establish an atmosphere of collaboration and non-judgement. We will discuss what it is you are wanting to accomplish in therapy so that I can create a treatment plan that addresses your unique goals. We will also begin working on distress tolerance skills. These skills will become your foundation for a better life!
I have worked with people of every age and helped my clients to challenge a myriad of issues that they wanted to change. I help clients to feel calm and able to open up rather quickly. I always strive to bring patience, compassion, and unconditional positive regard to everyone, regardless of what brings clients to therapy.
Mindfulness will allow you to connect with the present moment and reset your nervous system during times of stress. When you're anxious and worried about the future, you can drop yourself back into the here-and-now and connect with a sense of peace.
The beauty of this approach is that you will learn to accept yourself as you are while also learning how to improve yourself. DBT will help you tolerate difficult emotions, increase feelings of wellbeing, and enhance relationships.
In my opinion, loving yourself is the most important thing that you can do to lead a fulfilling life. Most of us can extend tremendous compassion to others that we do not reserve for ourselves, but we can learn to change that.
Traumatic events can devastate a person and can create unexpected and unwanted challenges in life. What is considered traumatic is different for everyone. I believe that you can learn to overcome these challenges with support that prioritizes your safety and autonomy.
Understanding how your nervous system talks to you will help you better understand how you are wired and why you react to the world in the way that you do. The body truly does keep the score! By learning how better understand and tap into your nervous system, you will gain an exciting new power that puts you in charge of your life!
