Gabriela Vega is a dedicated mental health therapist who specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and is credentialed to treat Substance Use Disorders (SUD). Her earlier and current clients have presented with Borderline Personality, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, General Anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD. She has over a decade of experience in the human services field, with significant experience addressing the concerns of seniors, their families, and the diverse populations of Saint Clair and Macomb Counties. Gabriela emigrated to the United States from Peru at the age of 14, shortly after her father lost his battle with leukemia. She grew up in a challenging and impoverished community in Florida, facing significant difficulties and barriers. She started school in Florida as a native Spanish-speaking teenager, having to learn English as a new middle school student. At the age of 16, Gabriela became a single mother, which profoundly changed her life. Despite the many challenges she faced, including a lack of family support, experiences of violence, and minor run-ins with the law, Gabriela persevered. She obtained her GED and ultimately graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ferris University, later earning a Master's degree from Wayne State University. She had entered Wayne State University to continue her education after again becoming a single parent following her divorce, and re-entering the workforce. Her journey is an expression of personal resilience and determination. Gabriela credits much of her strength and her desire to become a therapist to her older sister, Juli’s experiences coming out as non-binary at the age of seven. This experience taught Gabriela valuable lessons about love and acceptance, as well as the harsh realities of societal prejudice early on. This bond continued until Juli died in 2021. Gabriela later survived the untimely death of her twenty-year-old daughter, persevering for herself and her teenage son.

I believe Irvin Yalom said it best when he said we need to form a unique therapy for every person. We are all unique, our relationships and experiences are unique, and in therapy we need to find your own path forward in life. We can find that as a conversation between two experts, you being the expert in your own life, and me being an expert in this field. Together, we can work to help you find what you are looking for in therapy. Whether it is a skill and action motivated plan, or a space to emotionally process things regularly, or anything in between.

The therapeutic relationship is personal for every individual. The idea of sharing your story to someone can feel scary and overwhelming but can also feel relieving and hopeful. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, phase of life changes, or just need a safe space to process life stressors, therapy can be a positive step in creating change in your life. The challenging part can be finding a therapist that you can trust and is a good fit. Feeling comfortable with your therapist is essential to making progress. I approach therapy as a partnership and provide counseling from a trauma informed and strengths based perspective. I have been a practicing clinician since 2012 helping clients from various backgrounds identify goals that are important to them and have been fortunate to witness many of them achieve their goals.

I am a counselor who embodies empathy, compassion, and motivation in guiding my clients toward healing and self-discovery. My training in TEAM CBT, developed by Dr. David Burns, emphasizes the transformative power of confronting negative thoughts to drive positive emotional change. This method, rooted in the principle that 'The Truth Shall Set You Free,' focuses on identifying and challenging cognitive distortions. Additionally, as a Christian Counselor, I seamlessly integrate Christian principles with traditional talk therapy and TEAM CBT, ensuring that these approaches complement rather than conflict. This holistic blend allows for a therapy experience where clients address their mental health challenges and find deeper meaning and alignment with their spiritual beliefs.

I am Ruth Westfall, a licensed Social Worker, with 30 years of experience as a therapist. I am passionate about getting to know my clients and seeing them heal and overcome life's challenges. I have the greatest respect for those who seek support in order to make positive change in their lives! After finding myself a single parent, I needed to find work in a field where I could support my son and myself. I was always interested in a helping profession as well as one where I could be involved in social justice. I graduated with a Master's in Social Work in 1995 and immediately found work at a mental health clinic. I worked there for 24 years in various positions, not only as a therapist but as an advocate for victims of crime. The pandemic caused such a need for therapists that I was able to branch out on my own and go into private practice, which I love! Since 2020, I have worked with hundreds of clients on telehealth platforms and helped them cope with the many challenges of these last few years.

I believe in therapy as someone who has done my own clinical work since I was in my mid-twenties. I grew up in NJ and moved to Michigan to attend college and have been here since that time. I spent the first part of my career working in the foster care system with children and adolescents which I really enjoyed. That gave me a great foundation for working with the adult issues of attachment, child developmental stages that were not accomplished and struggles with current relationships. I do a lot of work with people who were raised by narcissistic parents, people who are dealing with cancer diagnosis and those with chronic or life threatening illnesses. I work with people who are addressing childhood trauma, sexual abuse or emotional abuse. I have worked with adoptees who are seeking understanding of themselves and their past. I do a lot of work with individuals transitioning from a divorce situation and all the adjustments that this involves especially in coparenting situations. I find people and their life experiences fascinating and always worth unpacking and investigating to gain a better understanding of the self as a whole being; there is always something new to learn.

You may have lived through experiences that changed everything—leaving you to question your safety, your worth, and even who you are. I want you to know this: you are not broken. What happened to you is not your fault. And you don’t have to carry it alone anymore. This is a safe place to process the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, and to hold space for your grief, confusion, fear, or questions—whatever arises for you. I am a trauma-trained therapist specializing in deep, complex trauma healing. Many of my clients have lived through abuse, domestic violence, neglect, manipulation, or abandonment—people who grew up in homes where safety wasn’t guaranteed, where love came with conditions, or where siblings were pitted against each other. Others have faced tragedy, sudden loss, or carry memories so painful they’ve struggled to name them. I also support first responders, healthcare professionals, military personnel, and others whose roles have exposed them to trauma most people will never see. Additionally, I work with individuals impacted by generational and collective trauma, including historical violence and large-scale tragedies. Because my practice focuses specifically on trauma recovery, I may not be the best fit for every concern. I do not provide treatment for adult autism, career counseling, personality disorders, anxiety-related disorders, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, life transitions, college issues, or other needs outside trauma-focused care. I don’t use CBT in my practice. I also do not provide services related to gender identity exploration or transition-related care, as these areas deserve support from clinicians who specialize in them. My goal is to ensure you receive the care that truly meets your needs. In our work together, I’ll walk beside you at your pace, offering compassion, safety, and care. Healing is possible, and I’ll be here with you—every step of the way.

Welcome to my profile! Thank you for taking that step of courage to seek the healing you desire! I am Delores Mayen, LCSW/LMSW-C. I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas and Michigan, who provides Christian faith-based therapy to adults who face challenges with anxiety, childhood-trauma, adult trauma, abuse, relationship building and just the currents involved when navigating through this thing called life. I also work with young adults, single-mothers, women with families, and men/women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse. I have experience working in the mental health field for over 10 years and have been providing clinical therapy services for 6 years. I am passionate about this field because I believe that everyone deserves healing in all areas of their life and that a diagnosis or challenge does not define a person. I offer faith-based Christian therapy to all of my potential clients, as I found that this is the most beneficial method of treatment I have ever worked with in practice. I have worked with clients who have made remarkable progress and found hope when engaging in this faith-based practice. I will be more than happy to work with anyone who is open to trying faith-based Christian therapy, as I can guarantee they will not be disappointed. Spirituality from diverse religious beliefs and practices from around the world, are widely accepted when addressing healing in the mental health field. However, it is unfortunate that Christian-faith based therapy, is a priceless gem that has been overlooked in the healing sector of mental health. I am here, as a clinician to offer that gem for the benefit and wellness of potential clients, who would like to experience everlasting healing. Please feel free to reach out and schedule to speak with me to learn more about the services I provide. Delores Mayen, LMSW/LCSW

Search therapists by insurance

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Michigan rather than a city like Detroit?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Michigan from Grand Rapids to Warren! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Michigan.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Sexual Abuse?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Sexual Abuse, is filtering therapists in Michigan that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
